I'm not a big psoter here, but hopefully some of you Terbites may have some advice for me.

My step-daughter has come home from college with a nasty ketamine addcition. She has been doing in for 4 months as she said, so it is likely 6-8 months (since she moved downtown).

She has been dealing it to be able to keep up with her habit. She is going through an eight-ball every day. So I imagine she is selling 2 - 2.5 grmas and doing the rest. Sje told me is she doing it daily.

She is depressed (alikely due to the amount she has been doing), has bladder infections, and is generally fuqed up.

She frequents the clubs and rave scene.

We don't have a lot of excess cash for rehab (if necessary) but would do whatever is necessary.

Any advice?

Dude, I feel for you. I was addicted to drugs for many years before coming clean. You can help, but she really has to want to do it for herself. If she is not willing to go the mile, then there is not much that can be done. If you/she needs someone to talk to that has been there, please feel free to send me a PM, I don't know what I can do if anything, but I can certainly shed some light on the situation and help out the best I can. Addiction can be overcome.

Do you know whether she is shooting it or smoking it? It is usually one or the other.

Thanks a1. I do believe she wants off as she has come totally clean to us. I was quite shocked at the honesty with which she told me.

I guess that's half the battle.

I would suggest proper medical advice. See your GP. Call the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health CAMH. They are the only ones who should be dealing with this type of issue.

Good luck.

Yes and no. Doctors definitely for the medical aspects, but a person still needs a good support system to help them through the times that lie ahead. AA (and its sub-groups) are a support system. They are addicts helping addicts. From a person who has been there, I place more faith in those that are willing to help and offer support than I do from the medical profession. Is a friend who takes an addict to the movies so they can forget about things for a while useless? I think not. How about someone to talk to at 3 am, when all you want is another fix? The medical profession does not offer either of those.

Don't even get me started about CAMH. Unless you have a great medical plan, or you want to be institutionalized they are as useless as tits on a bull. I have been working with them for a long time now, I know first hand. Mental health is so underfunded it's crazy. (Pardon the pun).

take her to a physician first if you have OHIP that will cover the expenses for treating the bladder infxn and get her onto meds to treat that. I've seen some p/t that dont treat some of their infections until they are at late stages and damage is irreversable.

also, contact: http://www.camh.net/

they should be able to assist your daughter further if she is willing to get help. they can discuss options that can suit your situation.

I hope all will work it and I'm sure over time it will, now that you guys are involved.

K is usually insufficated (snorted) in bumps off one's hand.
It's a very common drug in the party scene.
From my own research it's fairly safe (I use the term loosely... but physical and pychological dependance is possible)

The best site for drug-related research:

The same can be said about most recreational drugs - when used in moderation it is "fairly safe".....

Ketamine is addictive - moreso psychologically than physically. It can be used intravenous, snorted and smoked as well (although the effectiveness is diminished when it is used in that manner.) Read the experience vault on erowid - that site can allow someone who doesn't have any knowledge of what an addict goes through.

I hope that your stepdaughter gets through this addiction - it can be a consuming thing. I have watched addictions change people that I care about - and it is not a pretty sight. I am hopeful and wishing for the best in this situation. :)
