Knee Joint question

I was told that I have some wearing (no tears) of the meniscus and it is the source of slight pain or sensation in knee.

When the problem first surfaced, any discomfort was greater than it is now but I never had any swelling, stiffness or other symptoms. It almost seemed that based on location and slight pain that is was some type of ligament or tendon strain (not pull or tear type of pain). The Ortho did all the tests, physical and scan (MRI, ultrsound, xray), and a thinning of the meniscus is what they came up with.

Have you ever had a similar type of diagnostic and can you tell me what it felt like? According to the doc there is no way it is the medial or collateral ligament.

Thanks

BTW Pain or sensation is on inside of knee. If front is twelve o'clock and inside of knee is 3, discomfort area is at 3:30. From pics on the internet it is right in the area where the meniscus would be. It's just that the sensation feels like it is on the outside of knee and not deep in the knee where the m is. Knee cracks if I'm moving about in a small area like the kitchen. Otherwise, walking is fine.

I disagree with your Doctor's diagnosis and in light of the extensive testing he has ordered and analyzed agree with your decision to come to this August Chamber for a proper medical diagnosis.

I had the same problem and suggest that your penis may also be far too large and is bruising the inside of your knee.
Just thinking much the same. If you don't like what he told you, go to another MD.

Getting this kind of diagnosis on here, sight unseen, is like getting it diagnosed over the phone.

Same diagnosis for me but a customer of mine suggest these gel pads for my shoes. They fit under the heel and he suggested a softer shoe as well. I thought it was "bullshit" but i gave it the old college try since the alternative was not pleasing. About a week later the swelling was gone as well as the pain. If i go without a soft shoe for a day or the pads and walk on firm surfaces like concrete, the pain and swelling start to come back. The doctor was perplexed and so i also suggest a second opinion.

Good Luck

A year ago after working out I noticed that my knees hurt when going up stairs. After various mri's and xrays, rheumatologist and orthpedic Docs. It comes down that I have wear and tear in my knees, the exercises that would help knees are straight leg raises to strengthen the quads. The other thing that apparently helps are shots of durolane in the knees (its like a gel) supposed to last 6 months. Maybe your insurance would cover these if not the're like 400 bucks. Weight loss.

I try to make this so simple, but it is often times so hard here. Yes, I'll be getting a second but the question is: "For anyone who has had such a diagnosis, what was the pain like. Or, if you had any discomfort in that area, did you find out it was something else?"

For me, asking this is an intelligent thing. It's called gathering information. Becoming as informed as possible. There's a lot of guys on here and one or more may have run into a similar situation. Yes, it's a long shot but....

Thanks to the people who have offered sincere comments.

Do you run a lot? Are you active?

Stretch you legs....Especially your quadriceps....

Try taking Glucosamine and Chondritin (an anti-inflammatory for your joints)...GNC has a brand called Tri-Flex which is what I take...
Recommended it a to a lot of people and they have had a lot of success with it.....
Won't hurt and could only help....

Other than that....Ask for a second opinion...

Not an uncommon problem, knee joint pain. I know I have torn th eminisucs, probably twice. Excellent exercise is the dreaded stationary cycle, it works the knee and joints in a low stress environment. Be sure to fully extend the knee.

A couple of years ago I read an article that suggested a lot of knee surgery actually doesn't help heal any faster or better. This was corrobroated by my doctor, who was surprised. Since I was making good progress at the time recovering from an injury 4-5 months earlier I passed on the surgery. Still get twinges though, and very low grade soreness - more than pain.

Good luck.
