Wow, are you her agent? If you are going to pick a fight in a forum, you should probably learn to read first. I said "too blatantly ambitious". Ambition is not a problem. Nothing wrong with wanting to climb to the top; that's what makes civilization move forward.
I've known Krista for more than five years. Had a few dinners and cross paths every so often professionally. She's a great reporter, she has tremendous focus and separates facts from hype amazingly well for a young reporter.
My "problem" is this: You know how some people are legendary for making you feel special? When they are talking to you, you are the only person in an otherwise crowded room? Krista is not that kind of person. When you are talking to her, she's scanning the room for her next contact. When she calls, it's because she needs something.
Everyone "uses" other people for their own benefit. It just doesn't have to be obvious.
When making throwaway comments on an online forum, you should learn to expand on your thoughts so that they're not as ambiguous.
Not sure how well you know the media world - and I'm being honest and serious here - but I don't know if there is a more cutthroat line of business. Everyone is trying to find the next story, climb the corporate ladder fast (because the industry does not tolerate mistakes well, eats its own and really doesn't have time for women as they grow older - as opposed to men, who are allowed to grow old "gracefully".) It is the ultimate world of "what have you done for me lately" and as such, the reporters are always looking for that next news item, that next contact and that next juicy lead that can get them their next CAJ or CJF award and possibly lead to more profile or a bigger payday.
Having said that, I've met both Wendy Mesley and Krista Erickson and yes, Wendy is more at ease with herself (considering she's 50 and successful / well known, she should be) while Krista is still trying to break into what is ostensibly a man's world. She's already been rebuked for something reporters do all the time (feeding questions for a story) and knows that her shelf life is limited. I found Krista to be very engaging and someone who is able to balance her role as journalist with that of being young and female in an old white guys' business. We had a great discussion on politics, the Prairies and climate change and I never once found her to be any more of a "check the room out" kind of person than anyone else in her business, with a few rare exceptions both in better or worse directions. (Full disclosure: I'm also a room-checker-outer too. It comes with the territory, I guess.)
Your experience is your own and I can't debate that, but I can say that my experience with her is not the same and not something I would call "blatently" ambitious. To me, it was par for the course - could have been better and certainly could have been worse.
