I bought one of these same laptops 2 years ago from dell for $999 and even if I didn't use it that much... very light use... it's been nothing but trouble. The wires from the screen to the mobo end up breaking where they pass though the lid hinge. The Ethernet connector also was so cheap it broke on me too... then the Nvidia chip will overheat on you after you had it only 1 year because of the crappy cooling compound they used... also it hangs all the time on boot-up.

They don't build them like they used to. I'm using a Dell 610m from 7 years ago, installed Linux without a hitch and runs beeeeautifully.
The shell has taken a beating as well and no problems, just a beat up exterior. Just like Lenovo builds of old (before it was bought out by a Chinese company).

My father bought a new Dell recently and I don't like the quality of it. I'd suggest people buy an Apple or HP before they bought a Dell now.
(sorry about the semi-rant and hijiack lol)
