i bought a bunch of HP's with 17" screens and like their light weight and large keyboards, but, they aren't the easiest to move around with. if mobility is a concern, go with a smaller screen.

no problem with their reliability at all. but, there are alot of good brands. all except the experts in consumerism (apple) are fairly affordable.

Move this thread to the technology forum and you'll get better qualified responses from the techies.

Well, you usually get what you pay for but I'm sure there are some bargains out there. Personally I've been using Dell for about 8-9 years, both personally and as a corporate buyer...probably bought about 150 of them. We've had very little trouble and service is usually pretty good. They've started marketing their lower end models through Wal-Mart and now Future Shop but I think www.dell.ca is still the way to go.

I'll never Toshiba again, they are not the leaders any longer like they were about 10 years ago. They have really slippd in the last few years, way too many problems.

I highly recommend Del with the no questions asked warranty, the best by far in the industry. Í know my friends spilled wine on the keyboard and fried the motherboard, replaced within 3 days, no questions asked, I know of one that dropped it and cracked the shell and dislodged some internal components, replaced within a couple of days, no questions asked, etc....

Laptops can be finicky, that's why I now always buy the warranty.

Interesting.
I have one of those old Toshiba's with a 40GB drive. It runs good yet and was thinking of getting another. What don't you like about the new ones today? I thought they would be better.

it depends where your from I believe Dell has a few outlets around the GTA, Scarborough town center, Vaughn mall, and I believe Sherway gardens. These outlets just sell systems with New VISTA system.

I would recommend to pay a little extra and go for the support and quality in Lenovo products (use to be IBM). Stinkpads use to really, well um, stink. They seem to work a lot better now.
