How hot should a current laptop (HP) run? I've heard reports of a laptop melting plastic, but I don't know the detailed circumstances. Would that be within the bounds of "normal", or is that conclusively a fault condition?

That would definitely not be normal.

You have to make sure you keep the vents clear. Some people put them on their laps (duh!) and thereby block the vents and cause the laptops to overheat.

There were problems with the batteries of some laptops, but I believe that issue has been resolved.

Remove the battery and use the power and see if it gets hot then

Give US more info model + manufacture

Search the battery model number on Google and look for any known issue

How old is the laptop

When does it get hot (Right away or after soo many hours)

Plus is it an AMD or Intel? AMD were known to run hotter.
