I had PRK laser surgery at TLC as I did not qualify for LASIK due to a thin cornea. I found the clinic to be very professional and have nothing but positive comments to offer regarding their service and care. They were not one of the cheapest options, however, you only have one set of eyes. I, for one, would not take a chance with a discount service that offers $499 per eye. These services are generic and do not customize the laser for your unique set of eyes.

I went to Lasik MD... cost me 3 grand and change.... did not help me with reading.... still need glasses for that.... but for distance (& driving) I am now 20/20 both eyes. So for distance, the effect was kind of dramatic..... but after a few years you take it for granted. The distance vision at night is awesome.

Heard there are some new procedures which can help with the reading.

I would recommend, Herzig Eye Institude, they're not cheap but one of the best in lasik eye surgery. Got my done 9 yrs ago and cost me 5 G for both eyes, my vision is still great after 9 yrs.

I would recommend against getting the procedure. Weak vision can be a sign of not exercising certain eye muscles enough. Let's face it, we live in a laptop world, and we rarely use our eyes for longer distances. Therein lies the reason our eyes get progressively worse at seeing far away.

Perhaps one of the reasons, but age-related eye problems were just as common before computers. My parents had the same issues I have now, at about the same age.

Right, old people tend to need reading glasses... We have some anecdotal evidence, right here on this thread, that Lasik may not effectively address that particular condition..

Hey, you were the one that blamed computers.
I do blame computers... for not being able to see far away. Lasik seems to address this, but eye exercises may also help.

I blame old age.... for not being able to see up close. Lasik does not appear to address this.

My eye guy highly recommends Bochner.

He tells me that the next thing will be a lens replacement, simlar to cataract surgery. Improves both distance and reading.

They tell you right up front - or at least they did with me - that Lasik will not cure the need for reading glasses and in fact you may need them after the distance vision is corrected even if you didn't need them before. Fortunately for me this didn't happen but I cannot focus as close as I could presurgery. Apparently that's because the need for reading glasses is dependant on the muscles of the eye, not the lens and the muscles deteriorate as we age.

A relative had an awful experience with lazik. He had to go back every day for almost three weeks, and took pain killers for two weeks. Definitely don't go there.

stem cells.

but they say that's not going to come out til another 10 years.
If it's something that can be addressed through contacts or (gasp!) glasses, then getting surgery, to me, sounds way too risky.... What's so bad about glasses anyway??

if you ride the ttc train on any given day. take a look at all the people on the train with you and you'll see that more than half of them wear glasses 24/7
