I want to back up some of my DVD's in my collection.

What are the best free DVD burning programs out there which bypass today's copyright protection?

And how do you fit the 7-8G ones to a single 4.7G DVD?

Any help is appreciated.

DVDFabDecrypter to exctract ANY movie (freeware)
DVD Shrink 3.2 to extract most movies AND to re-compress any movie for SL DVD-R. (also a freeware)

I suggest, try getting rid of all the unneeded special features (just back up the movie only) so you don't have to compress as much.

the above two programs will get you far but there a lot of newer disks that require more specialized software. Better stock up with AnyDVD and CloneDVD as well as they can help when others fail.

I have used Fab and shrink, seems the only problem I've had was doing Disney movies with DVD Decrypt but Fab fixed that.
Clone is good but not sure about compression settings with that program.
Have fun and try to use DLayer if possible, no compression needed(usually) but some older burners wont do DLayer.
Just a head up on that.

The only thing that's questionable about Fab is, if you have a decent firewall, Fab wants to contact some server just prior to your scanning of your DVD.
Kinda weird, it wants to send the IFO information about the DVD you are scanning.
Try doing it offline and it won't work.

I downloaded DVD Shrink 3.2 and it works like a charm (so far) for compressing AND burning.
Tried AnyDVD and Fab but they seemed to conflict with each other and as Cobster pointed out Fab tries to send info to some server which is strange.

Thanks to all for the recommendations.

I use DVD43 and Nero Ultra7.
I have problems sometimes because DVD43 can't take the copy protection out of about 20% of the movies out there. For example it can't solve the Sony Arccos protection.

Question: Can I use DVDFAB Decrypter just to take out the copy protection? Because I'd rather switch over to Nero to do the compressing to hard drive and then write it to a blank DVD afterward.

Also, what is a good website to download DVDFAB Decrypter from? I'd like to experiment with it.
Thanks for any input.

Yep Fab will take out the copyright, it makes you a folder with files of the movie.

Again, I have to second that. Any and CloneDVD work great and easy to handle. But they ain't freeware, hence the turn offs for some.

If you're using them both, what's wrong with them?

I use AnyDVD and Nero.... usually I have AnyDVD running in the background while I boot up Nero and it works like a charm haven't had any problems of yet. The only thing is if you forget to have AnyDVD running in the background then it won't work with certain DVD's using Nero. And I've gotten free copies of AnyDVD, once again my big pool of geek loving has saved me yet again LOL

Try the AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 combo. Free and Fully function trial ( limited time ) version available at their site.I have never had any problem so far except with content that was corrupted in the first place.

Just like with skidor...

Fab scans and try to open source

Sony Pictures screen comes on...exits then a FEEDBACK screen comes on...

says...

Failed to get DVD information etc...

Any other freeware I can try to get around this problem with Sony DVDs? Thanks...might just have to try anyDVD and cloneDVD.

Backed-up Casino Royale yesterday with Fab. Copied to the hard drive then used Nero recode to copy to a DVD. Make sure you are running the latest Fab (3.0.8.6), as my slightly older version (2.8.something) didn't work. Make sure the DVD is clean, don't know why, but Fab seems sensitive to grunch.

Neither DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter would decode.
I also used a trial version of DVDFAB-Platinium to burn a copy of Casino Royale to a single layer DVD. When played, the resulting DVD takes about thirty or so seconds to begin but then goes normally.

I watched Casino Royale for the first time last night. Wondered why I bothered to go to the trouble. Crap. :(

JW, dont' tell me you didn't like the movie?
It was pretty entertaining considering he had no Bond gadgets.
Opening chase scene on foot? One of the best ever.
Kinda like Ronin's car scene.

Anyone got any idea why FABDecryp needs information re: the IFO files before burning?
Something about it, just rubs me the wrong way.
