boston wouldn't've traded Thornton to an Eastern Conference team for anyone. wouldn't be fair to Thornton playing so often against his friends and in Boston so often with the fans booing him and such.

a class act like thornton doesn't deserve this.

that thornton trade was planned well in advanced... think about it:
1. they traded him to one of the teams that don't play in Boston for the longest time... I think thornton will have some 15 or so games under his belt as a shark before playing in boston.
2. they traded him to a team fronting on the opposite coast!
3. they traded him to a team where he has friends (and family) to make him feel at home.

tonight

we did play like a team..we looked from top to bottom a like a bunch of pathetic dont care have no heart losers...i guess you get that when you captain is the front runner in that category...and if you look at past playoff sucess mats had nothing to do with it,,,,,lets recap

2002...got injured half way threw 1st round.......we won that round in 7....then without mats we beat ott in 7...then we won game 1 vs car without mats...mats comes back we win 1 of 5

2004...mats gets injured AGAIN half way threw playoffs we beat ott in 7..he comes back lose to philyy.why everyone loves this guy i dont no...when is the last time he dominated a playoff run??? NEVER...he can dominate a few reg season games but this year he cant even do that...mats you stink..i dont care bout your reg season points sometimes you stink...you are a natural born loser with alot of $$...at least take pride in $$ bc as a man u have nothing else

If Sundin is such a poor leader, and a loser as you say, why would other teams want him? Why would they give up anyone good?

The other team may want to get rid of their loser too ;)

Could be just the chemistry of lines. Or even bad blood in the locker room.
I think its more of a case of not having a Gary Roberts or Mogilny in the locker room to kick people in the ass to get them to snap out of it. Dimitri is right with his original point that the leafs lack a true leader. That is the biggest problem.

I'm beginning to think Quinn has to go. It's one thing to take a team of superstars and win...it's another to coach what the budget will allow and win. Quinn has no Stanley cup ring.

The players on the Leaf's are not that bad on paper. It's the system they're forced to play that might be the problem. Look at Ottawa, essentially the same team..yes some really good off season additions...but the new coach has made a LOT of difference.

Pat's time in Toronto should really be examined. How long can you continue as an owner juggling the roster until you make changes in the management?

It can't all be Fergesons fault. It's not lack of money. Quinn has to bear a lot of the fault for what's happening now. This team as it stands is playing as good as they can. Nothing will change from now till the playoffs.

If a change is to be made..it has to be Quinn.

Positional Play..

..is the Leafs biggest downfall..always caught out of position...look at some of the goals last night..although in this league..if you can't score, you're doomed..and now that the clamps have been put on the Leafs Power Play, they are cooked. Teams also seem to know that the Leafs are poor at handling heavy forechecking. They seem to lack the ability to throw the breakout pass to spring a fast player for a break. And on pucks along the boards in their own end, they always seem to be a step slow in reacting.Clearing pucks during penalty kill is a huge problem as well...And this is scrqtching the surface...Maybe an eigth place finish is possible..but htere doesn't appear to be any playoff run in this group..

all good points

i love quinn but when i team doesnt play for the coach no more change him.....there is no all star break this year only olympic break.......i dont care about lines...at 7 mill he has to play better then the float alot playing he has done all season..not 5 games not 8 all season.....its time to shape up....or ship out...but i have no faith in jfj..he has shown no creativity whatsoever from when he came and got wrong type of def in leetch (who philly ate up) then he got the obvious i want to come to toronto losers i really hate lindros...it doesnt make a iff if he plays or not...and has done nothing creative..instaed he got khanov worst def since erikson...re signed domi for 1.25 (MY LORD I ALMOST THREW UP THAT DAY)...we overloaded on centre and now we have no wing help.....lots of mistakes as i remember when leafs signed stupid over there ...dryden said here the next star in the making...a future star.....well ill tell you this star get it together or your gm career will be short lived...star!

This whole team wil look different next year. Fergie's goal was to ice what he could next year knowing there is a big free agent crop next year. One signing leads to another, the players will come. A lrger cap will also help.
I dont think there will be too many big name free agents next year - Iggy, Vinny, Joe - all signed to long term contracts. A larger cap will help ottawa keep Chara and redden. I just dont think players will come to Toronto.
