What do you naysayers think about the Leafs now? Yes the Leafs are still below .500 and have a long way to go to make up lost points, but it looks like they are finally improving.
Goaltending is solid, the defence better, and they've posted shutouts over two of the best teams in the conference.
Give them some time; they can only get better... [knocks on wood]

Band wagon...

I am a HUGE leaf fan, always have been, always will be.

Having said that, I think this year will turn out the same again.... they'll make the first round (maybe the second), and then it will end again. In the mean time everyone will shout GO LEAFS, and the A.C.C. will sell out all the games. Bottom line.... until the owners are hurt in the pocket books they will have no reason to put a cup contender on the ice. I wish it were otherwise but as they say.... the truth hurts, but it's still the truth.

Unfortunately I think they will hover around .500 for the rest of the year and if they do make it into the playoffs, they will barely squeeze in. I do believe the players are feeling more comfortable playing in front of Belfour and vice versa. Coming into the season, the media put a lot of negative pressure on the team - cujo leaving, not signing big-time players, etc and consequently it showed in their overall play. They seemed lost, but it does look like things are turning around for now. One other thing I heard is a power struggle between Pat Quinn and Ken Dryden. Everyone agrees Pat should leave his GM post and just stick to coaching. Apparently Ken wants Bob Gainey as GM, but Pat wants his friend Steve Tamberlini. Now because of their stubborness, I don't know what good does this do for the team and I don't know if some players have tuned out on Pat.

Unless the Leafs will pull a Carolina next spring.

In regards to not signinng free agents this past summer...I wouldn't be too hung up over it. Aside from Gurien, Tony Amonte has done squat and Holik (injured) hasn't helped Rangers much.
