Let Freedom Reign, Indeed

Thomas Jefferson was thoroughly influenced by John Locke. The profound meaning of the Declaration of Independence is NOT fully understood by most Americans (that's why America is a philosophical mess -- with freedom mixed with anti-freedom elements like their drug laws and racist laws favouring one group over another.) The irony, of course, is that these "Americans" will be celebrating with those few who do -- while they undermine Jefferson's ideals.

Moreover, the Declaration of Independence isn't just about our neighbours. This document, for the first time in human history, explicitly acknowledged the *unalienable* rights of man. All Governments everywhere are suppose to recognize these natural rights. There is no right to enslavement.

Sadly one of the "unalienable rights" is our supposed freedom to pursue happiness. Unless its with a sexworker...

Unlike Canada where individual freedoms are actually in your laws, down here in the U.S., we are far more influenced in laws and culture by the religious right that only want us seeking pleasure on their terms. Freedom OF religion is not freedom FROM religion which is mostly radical conservatism of the religious right that is responsible for our anti- seeking pleasure laws.
