Escort defends her profession

Re: The Hard Truth About Prostitution, March 14.
I was concerned, and horrified, after reading letter-writer Jack Chambers' comments regarding prostitutes. He compares a human prostitute to a plastic sex toy and then adds, "when either breaks, you just buy another one." Talk about degrading.
Sadly, Mr. Chambers' view is that "a whore will always be a whore." Mr. Chambers must not know about the importance of human touch, the need for attention, and just simply being seen by another human being as real, in a world where so many feel invisible. A sex toy or plastic doll doesn't even come close. I began this profession -- yes, I am a paid escort -- after reading a magazine article about erectile dysfunction and its effect on men; men weeping over the loss of intimacy. It's not just about the orgasm, Jack.
Eliot Spitzer's situation in New York would not be news if prostitution were legal, because no one would know about it. I am sure Mr. Spitzer was a good and decent man before "Kristen" and that he remains so after. My clients, some married, are also good and decent men. Ranging in age from mid-twenties and all the way into their eighties, their financial status includes the working poor up to multi-millionaires.
Mr. Spitzer's biggest mistake might have been that he thought a $1,000/hour escort was somehow more special than a $200/hour girl.
Prostitution is a victimless crime and should be legalized.
