Lately my family has been enjoying good, spicy Indian food. I've tried Tandoori Grill in Mississauga (I think there are other locations in the GTA), Signature in Whitby, Maharaja in Oshawa, and a place (whose name I can't remember) on Queen Street near University. All were very good--a few others I've tried have been nothing special. I've been to The Host in Richmond Hill--maybe it would be fine at other times of the day but it was near the lunch/dinner switchover and the food was in need of a little TLC.

So I'm looking for other ideas--have you had any really good Indian food lately? I have not tried anything in the real Indian areas like Coxwell and Gerrard in Toronto or anywhere in Brampton so there may be excellent places there, but I'm open to anywhere in the GTA. What are your favourites?

Here’s one that’s appropriate for this board:

Mmm, that one looks good!

I tried the Mumbay in Pickering Village. It was one that didn't impress me, but it might have been the time of day--it wasn't very busy and the food selection was pretty limited. Maybe I'll try it again during a more prime time. As for the others, thanks! When I'm in Markham I'll give them a try!

You gotta try Zeera by the Bay in Pickering

They have an outdoor patio in the warmer months...the decor inside isn’t anything special but the food is phenomenal. You can eat dark meat items off the AYCE buffet or order white meat items off the menu. It was recommended to me by a playmate and I’m very happy I checked it out.

Thanks Amy! I'll have to try it next time I'm down by the beach! Maybe when it's a little warmer...

I like The Pow Wow Cafe on Augusta in Kensington Market, they have tacos on Ojibway-style frybread.

Whatever happened to that restaurant that was firebombed? Apparently, some of the customers are suing the restaurant.

I like Bombays Chutney in RH. You can pick how spicy it comes. mild, medium and hot. Medium is great.

Amazing eggplant curry. I hate eggplant normally, I could eat that eggplant curry any day of the week with naan.

Decor is nothing special.

I'm not an Indian food fan, but I tried a place recently called The Maharaja near Eglinton and Confederation Parkway in Mississauga. The food was quite good even for me. I have an Indian friend who likes the food so that must count for something.

I'll give you two places, one in Markham and one in Mistersauga, depending on where you are.

Markham - Dum Phukt - good food, service and atmosphere

Mistersauga - Avani - good food, service and atmosphere so so

Both will give an authentic Indian cuisine experience.
