There was a thread about Hyundai and Kia a few days ago that you might find helpful.

If you are just looking for a little all-wheel drive car, these are supposed to be ok, for the price. I am a two-time Subaru Outback owner and can't say enough about them. I just replaced my last one... 270,000 km and still ran like a clock.

I'm also on my third Tahoe, if you are looking for something larger. You can't beat the thing in the snow... 7000#s, four-wheel drive and good tires and it will go through anything... but it's hard to get past a gas station.

I'd say the RVR of mitsubishi is a good buy but if you're in a tight budget, Jeep Patriot is supposedly cheap and surprisingly a gas saver now...i heard.

I am looking at the ford suv..any comments
Which Ford SUV? They've got five SUV/Crossover models, from the Escape to the Expedition. Big difference.

I have a friend who had an Explorer. She swore by it. The latest version is very nice. Land Rover suspension system and all.

I am considering a Toyota Venza, it is a crossover. The SUV type vehicles do not give me the ride I need. The Venza is a good deal for 2013 with extra equipment and reasonable price. About $32k even with 4wd and V6.
I will be taking a look at the Acura RDX. The new model has gone to the Venza styling, but is more expensive. May consider it if it offers much more for the extra money.

I shopped both earlier this summer. The Venza is a lot of car and a great value. If you need cargo room and versatility, I think it's a clear winner. For me, it was just too big (already have a truck and was looking for a city car).

The New RDX is a huge improvement over the previous version. Fun to drive, and supposedly doesn't suck premium like the old car. I didn't lie the interior. Personal thing. Just seemed too gadgety to me. I was very tempted by the clear out prices on the 2012 units...something like 25% off?

The Venza has the illusion that it is a large vehicle, but it is not that much longer than a Honda Civic. It is wider and it does have space inside because it is taller.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, I don't think I would buy another one. The style is nice and engine wise its great - fantastic acceleration, gets decent mileage and drives nice on the highway. Its the little things however that turn me off - having to replace both taillight bulbs, rips in the leather seats, gauges that don't always function properly, windows freeze in winter and won't go up or down, two tires completely replaced within 40K kms, brakes squeal consistently despite having had a flush and replaced pads.

I was looking at the new Ford Explorer and if you have the cash you can get a well equipped 4WD for about $37-$38K taxes inc. Don't finance or lease through them their rates are outrageous compared to the competition.

I would think Land Rover should have some deals on the outgoing Range Rover. All new design coming. Sucks like a hoover on premium but if you want to party like a rock star.....

Land Rovers, next to a Hummer, are the worst choice you can make: tons of recalls, rate poorly in terms of overall performance and design, comfort, initial quality, body and interior, mechanical quality and design, and powertrain quality and design, costs of ownership, safety and fuel economy.

If you're a poseur fine; if you know anything about cars you'll stay far away.

It makes me laugh when I see someone drive by in a Land Rover. It might as well be a Dodge Ram or a Jeep Cherokee or some other lemon. So many people just don't do their research and are clueless.

Wow, ironic since both produce military vehicles one would think the reliability would be pretty good.

Land Rover does produce a military version if the civilian model, AM General produces the military Humvee, but it is nothing like the civilian Hummers they use to sell at GM dealers. These military vehicles are over built and over simplified to make repairs in the field easier. The US and Canadian army has a lot of MILCOTS Silverado. I was reading a report about the specifications of the doors for this vehicle. The civilian version can have over 120 parts, where as the military versions has only 12 parts. The Canadian army also uses Mercedes G wagons, I am sure there is nothing luxurious about these vehicles, and the ride must be pretty rough due to the super duty beefed up suspension.

A while back, the Canadian Army wanted to buy militarized ( stripped ) versions of the 4 door Jeep Wranglers, but I think the deal fell through.
