It might be worth the saved time to get a new(er) MB. You can get a new bottom of the line MB CPU combo in the $100 range and a new video card for under $50.

IMO $150 is better than spending countless hours searching.

$150 for a router? A new motherboard for a 90s computer? No.

From Canada Computers,

Celeron420 socket 775 $38.99
Foxconn 945GZ7 MB $44.99 (PCI-E)
EVGA e-GeForce 7300GS TC 256MB $39.99

Total: $123.97

(can add compatible 1G ram for $23.49 - grand total $147.46 + tax)

All you need from your old computer is the box, the HDD and the drives.

It's a router. You could use an old 486. Consumer models are $20.

For linux your better off using older parts , then you know there will be drivers for the parts being used if you use parts that are not that common or fairly new.. then you are taking a good chance that there maybe no drivers developed for the components . Don't forget its not windows..I want the options to use what ever distro I decide to try out .. thats why it is sometime so hard to get linux to run on some laptops..

I'm just hoping Ubuntu will run OK on my new laptop.
The linux forums hold out hope and claim the upcoming version Hardy Herron of Ubuntu will even support my Toshiba wireless.
Hope they are right.
