Agreed.

"You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" was one of my favourite song from the '70s. Amazingly smooth and very recognizable voice.

From the news article, he was also very active with the charities in the community.

He will be missed.

One of the smoothest voices in music.

Yep, he'll be missed.

...Soul singer extraordinaire... was a childhood friend of Sam Cooke. A sad day, indeed for everyone. Sincerely, Jon .
Really going to miss Lou - he was a God in the 70's Disco scene - best music to get laid by.

Here and there
Rawls came thisclose to dying in a car crash with Cooke many decades ago. He then went on to a great, great career. Listening to his incomparable voice reminds me of that old Col. Potter line from M*A*S*H: "...not enough 'o's' in 'smooth'."

Rawls sang with sincere emotion...

One of my favourite DVDs is the BET 'The Jazz Channel Presents Lou Rawls'. I think every song on this disc is performed brilliantly and you can see how he moves the audience by the expression in their eyes and body language. He incorporates quite a few musical styles in the songs but his voice is so distinct you just know it is a Lou Rawls song from the get go. Later in his career he covered a few Hollywood show tunes with some success like "Wind Beneath My Wings". I think he did a very good job in his version of Louie Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World' which is also featured on the disc. I'm a big fan and this is a downer...

A couple of weeks ago I was listenting to Lou Rawls' performance at Monterey Pop (1967) to a bunch of California hippies. His musical appeal crossed borders.

Was the music encapsulated in a wine bottle? Took you that long to crack it open? 1967. Ah, Monterey music fes.

I never had the vinyl and my kids recently bought me the 4CD set.
