My daughter is bugging me for a digital camera and I'm looking for a very low end one in the 2 megapixel range because I know she'll probably lose or wreck it. It would be something in the $230 to $250 range.

Has anyone had any experience with cameras such as the Canon ELPH LT260, or the HP 320 Photosmart? And also has anyone had success buying used equipment from Henry's?

Thanks in advance

try this site too...

www.factorydirect.ca has some very nicely priced cameras. Personally a 2 megapixel is pretty decent camera, IMHO.

The Elph costs a lot more than 200. Canon has an excellent A200, two megapixels, great for first-time users. I think HP is a lesser brand for cameras.

You can also look on e-Bay. I saw today a very slightly used Kodak DC4800 (3.1 Mega pixels) for $100 U.S. The selller was in Toronto. They cost $1200 new in 2000. I bought one from Kodak at $850 and only recently replaced it for a Canon G2 with manual controls. Sold my DC4800 for $250.00.

HP320 photo smart

Not a bad camera. I have one myself,
The one thing I have found is in low light coditions sometimes it has a hard time focusing, especially if there is not a lot of contrast in your picture
It comes with 8 meg of memory built in, I bought a 64 meg san disk when I purchased the camera, the pictures are quite acceptable for what I would call family or vacation type photos, on highest quality an 8X10 enlargment is very good
( honestly I havent done an 8X10 on any other mode)
better stock up on AA batteries tho, digital cameras like batteries!

No matter what camera you buy make sure you buy Nimh rechargable batteries, well worth the investment. Consider Fuji as well it has some excellent cameras in the $250 up range. I have only heard good things about Henrys(except that they really know how to sell you a lot of extras - good sales people

To the best of my knowledge Henry's won't deal in used Digital, and when they do the price isn't far from retail.

Honestly ebay has some good used some through Henry's and as long as you read the descriptions and are careful you can find some good deals.

Most of it depends on what you daughter wants the camera for, if it's just pics to put on a webpage or send via email then most cammeras including the HP line with the docking ports are great ... Printing them is another story.

If she wants to print them out, 2 megaixel will get you a decent but not sharp image printed out 3 X 5 any larger and the image loses definition.

I don't reccemend the Fuji line of cameras though, I find that they have some trouble with resolution and their zoom and qauality are more digitally enhanced than actual pixels.

Watch for the term interpollated which refers to digitally enhancing the resolution over actual resolution.
