20 months for this?
A man has been jailed for 20 months for kidnapping his wife to stop her having her breasts enlarged.
James McCarthy told his wife Kerry: "Don't do it. I like you as you are" as he dragged her out of a ward at St Bartholomew's hospital in the City of London.
Mrs McCarthy, 27, became hysterical as she pleaded with hospital staff to save her and that she feared he would kill her, the Old Bailey was told.
She was dragged out of the hospital by McCarthy but managed to get away in Gresham Street and ran into an office where she collapsed on the floor.
Michael Gomulka, defending, said: "This defendant did not want his wife to undergo an augmentation operation.
"He did not think it was necessary. He was also worried about the surgery itself.
"He went to the hospital to talk her out of having the operation. When she refused he reacted in the way he did."
McCarthy, 27, of Canning Town, east London, pleaded guilty to kidnapping Mrs McCarthy, who is separated from her husband and uses the name Kerry Joy, on February 9 this year.
Kate Bex, prosecuting, said Mrs McCarthy had turned up for her surgery with a black eye.
She was in the course of telling hospital worker Lola Ali about it when McCarthy turned up claiming he had a knife.
"He was clearly in some state of agitation and shouted at Miss Joy," said Miss Bex.
Miss Ali had told police: "I saw him pick her bag up and he told her 'I like you as you are. I will kill you now'.
"It was certainly a frightening experience. I saw how frightened the lady looked."
McCarthy was arrested in the area by police and later produced a prepared statement in which he denied threatening his wife.
"I pleaded with her not to have a breast augmentation," he added. "We had a further chat and she agreed not to have it done."
He said the couple had been married for a year and had a nine-month-old baby.
Mrs McCarthy has not had the breast operation following the incident.
The judge, Recorder William Clegg QC, told McCarthy: "You are, in plain English, a bully.
"This is a serious offence. It is the second time you have gone into hospital premises and committed a crime against your partner."
