Do you actually think that the deal for OTPP buying BCE in EARLY JULY is the reason for cuts in late July? This purge has been in the planning stages for a long time. In the Toronto area, it is also caused by the consolidation of Bell employees to the new Mississauga campus from other Bell facilities in the GTA.

I'm switching from Bells cellular over to rogers. ( Corporate plan)

Yes they are both asshats, but I'll be damned if those farkin teachers are getting my money, so long as I have options.

Maybe others are also.

It's all that network congestion I tell you! The good people at Bell warned us, but did the selfish users with their desires to acutually use the bandwidth they bought listen? No!

Now excuse me, my Stargate Atlantis downloads are finished, gotta go watch 'em ...

------

Seriously, I do feel sympathy for anyone "downsized" (even Bell employees): been there myself.

Unlike you who meet them everyday, I don't ever run into that situation.

Thankfully I found out that Ranjita (often goes by the name Dave), my customer service rep in Bombay isn't affected in this round of cuts.

Could be...

...since 30% of the executives were let go as well.

Over the last few years Bell had been hiring some very dynamic executives with very good to excellent track records from TELUS. These were guys who had very much worked to make TELUS what it is today, but grew weary of Darren taking all of the credit (and of his dictator on crack management style...the guy is crazy smart, but that doesn't give him a right to treat everyone like idiots...especially people as smart as him). When Sabia brought in these people it was to get help with a turn around...I don't think he foresaw them succeeding him however (then again, maybe it was the board who brought them in...)

Bell suffers from having a layer / legacy of middle and low level senior management that just doesn't get it. They focus so much on optics, semantics, protocol and covering their asses that they were oblivious to the fact that they were running the company into the ground. It wasn't just a waste thing (though there is TONS of waste at Bell), it was the inability to truly be visionary with ideas to actually SOLVE problems versus simply managing the numbers. Perfect example is the off shoring of customer service...makes since...on paper. Makes the numbers better for a quarter or two. but when one of your weaknesses is your perception as a company and how much you care about your customers...does this make sense?

I know a few of the people who are in the key roles now...and know of (though have never met or worked for) most of the others. They are nice guys (that is part of how they breed such employee passion and loyalty...anybody who was at TELUS MOBILITY before Cope left will testify that it was such a great place to work that main/wirelin TELUS employees were openly jealous) but they ain't patient. Cope was biding his time for the last 3 years, quietly seeing who were the idiots and who weren't, all the while hiring people he knew and trusted and putting them in key positions.

This is no surprise whatsoever...and trust me, it is about more than just shrinking payroll...
