I recently started using 'utorrent' and 'thepiratesbay' and my McAfee protection has started to turn itself off (or at least parts of it) every so often. I have run scans and nothing turns up. Anyone have this problem - or know what it might be?
I have been using McAfee for several years with utorrent and previously Azurus and have never had a problem with McAfee, but I only use private torrent trackers I don't use public ones like the pirate bay. DHT should be disabled in utorrent, if it is not I recommend you do so as all private trackers require this feature to be disabled. I don't know if disabling DHT will make a difference with the stability of your McAfee program but you can try and see if it does.
Sounds like you're got some kind of setting turned on/off. I've used McAfee for years and years and never had any problems (other than some conflicts with Windows security settings, which just needed to be turned off).
I've used Pirate Bay and bittorrents without problem.
Is your computer on continuously? If not, it could be that McAfee needs to update itself and is having problems doing so.
on a similar note with McAfee...i downloaded something from isohunt via utorrent that screwed me up and spybot or mcafee didn't catch. kept asking to download mitrodemo dot com which i refused http://www.suggestafix.com/index.php?showtopic=33518
been ages that i had a infection
Think I figured it out - I kept getting errors on one particular file I was downloading so I cancelled it. When I tried to delete the partial file that had already been saved it would not let me. I ended up pulling my modem and then rebooting. I was then able to delete the partial file. Since that I have not had any further problems. This makes me believe that it was a corrupted (or infected) file. So - fingers crossed that is all it was.
Ron221 - I also turned off the DHT as you suggested so perhaps that played a part as well.
The other thing you can try if it happens again is to go into Task Manager and close down all your torrent activities. Sometimes something hangs and until you remove it from Task Manager you can't use that program effectively.
