Just curious. How can you have "good relations" if you take certain meds that limit your performance. Do you simply stop taking the meds or is there a way around this problem. I'm asking because I have a date coming up and I want a good time just once. By not taking the meds I won't die or anything and could resume right after. Do you guys think that there is another way?

I'd say your best bet is to consult with your MD. He will tell you whether it's safe to go off your meds for a while and if so for how long. Sometimes it takes a while for the effects of the meds to clear out of your system. Or conversely, if he feels that you shouldn't go off your medication, he may suggest Viagra and write you a Rx or give you a sample to try. He knows which drugs decrease your libido and should be able to give you the best course of action to counter this problem. It happens a lot.

shack is right... consult your MD.

you might have several options - viagra is the obvious one if your problem is getting or maintaining erection.

of course, it depends on what type of drug you are on. for example, antidepressants. some antidepressants kill your sex drive - others will allow you to get an erection but make reaching orgasm difficult, and a few others will act like viagra.

so, ask your doc if changing your meds might help, or even if you might be able to skip them for a while. with some medications, the side effects outweigh the benefits.

Sedatives

Most of the medicines that bare the warning "Do not drive or use heavy machinery..." include a sedative and could cause Johnson to take a nap.

I'm just blunt with my Doctor. I haven't fazed one yet, they've seen it all. Just say it. I think they like you to just tell them, saves them time trying to coax you.

I've had experiences with antidepressants which gave me ejaculatory disfunction. If you're on antidepressants, ask your doctor to put you on anther one. There are many anti-depressants available, some of which don't affect libido. Although, I've found that the better ones do kill your sex drive.

I'll agree with this too. Having been on anti-depressants for some time, I've had both erection problems and ejaculation problems. Sex is still *fun*, but it's different.

I do try to reassure my partners that it's *not* them, it's me, and it's not even really me, it's the meds.

DavidO, who can get depressed about being depressed...

timing may be a factor...

Hey TOTP,

Again, talk with your doctor.

Keep in mind that these types of medications take time to accumulate into your system. Likewise, they will take time to be depleted from your system. So then, if you stop taking your meds the day before your date, you may still be greatly under the influence of the meds.

I suggest you tell your doctor about your concerns and needs. Perhaps there are good meds that also do not interfere with sexual relations.
