Merchant Accounts

Hi all. I'm looking for input on merchant account providers (credit card processing). I've been using FirstData/UNPS for many years, having switched over to them from a big bank for lower discount rates. With the lower rates came minor inconveniences, some nickle and diming, and lacklustre customer service. It's been worth it until now. Their POS terminal is indeed a POS - it quit on me and I've been waiting for a replacement for over a week now. They say they're out of them and are waiting for a shipment. I mean WTF? I can't process any transactions without one.

I've found a few companies with just a rudimentary google search but don't know anything about them. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with merchant providers? Some of the ones I've come across:
Global Payment Systems
CollectivePOS
Chase Paymentech (they offer special rates to Board of Trade members)

I checked with TD and they have software to process transactions online. This would be good for me as 100% of my sales are phone/mail order. However, their rates are not to my liking.

Any help is appreciated.

Next to the money pit.
I use Paymentech. I accept Visas and MasterCards. I pay about $35 a month minimum. I'm using the old fashion knuckle roller. The discount rate they charge me is 3.95%. PM me if you want more info.

HA! I guess my ranting helped; I just received my new terminal. I've been on the phone w/ customer service for the past 27 mins. trying to activate it though.

Thanks for your replies. Seems my rates (about 2.0%) are pretty darn good for the nature of my business. Not much in the way of hidden fees but the ones they have aren't outrageous. Still gonna keep looking though.

Can you get a second terminal to keep as a cold spare?

I haven't thought/bothered to ask as I bought the one I have outright (I think it was over a thousand bucks). I also have to return the one that has malfunctioned. I've also asked if they could even set me up with a different model (in the interim) but they said it wouldn't work.
