I remember some people on here complaining about the iPhone's battery not being interchangeable as with some other phones. Frankly, I don't know anybody who carries around an extra battery for their smartphone.

The smart ones are those who buy those powerbanks...for me, they're a godsend when you have a tablet or two on you along with at least one smartphone. One big powerbank with a couple of outlets at 1.0 and 1.5 and you're good to go.

Bit of a setback with the Redmi; turns out it won't run on at least one of Canada's telecom carrier's networks.

First time this has ever happened to me...been through Nokia, Samsungs and Apples and all have worked fine with domestic and international networks. What to do? Hrmm...

Only solution is to try for another Xiaomi model! hehehe

There is one other Chinese manufacturer whose name escapes me at the moment...

I have a spare battery and charger for my Android LG Spectrum phone. I keep the charger and battery in my truck so If my phone gets low, I just walk to my truck, swap the battery, and voila - full charge. After having this setup for a while, I'm not sure if I could willingly switch to a phone that can't swap out the battery.

Ok, a bit of an update here. The Samsung Note 1 and Xiaomi Redmi are going on the backbench. The former has turned into a slug. The latter I cannot use in Canada so it will be a backup for overseas use.

More importantly, the iPhone 4 is going to be retired. It developed a hardware issue and it is not worth fixing. Very sad...great phone.

It is being replaced by an Asus Zenfone 5 4G LTE! Picked this up in Asia and the vendor swore up and down it was a true world phone. Normally, at such a low price you don't really get a world phone...remember the Xiaomi Redmi debacle? We shall see about worldwide compatibility...

So, no iPhone in my stable for the first time in years!

Also picked up an Asus fonepad 3G...one model older. Nice but was a real pain to setup to work with an overseas carrier. Can't beat the sale price that I got it at, though. The Zenfone was a bit problematic to set up too...required three factory resets of which one was my fault.

Oldest phone that I am still using is the Samsung Galaxy S I. A big surprise for me but it works very well for voice and text messaging.

Edit: Am looking into an eventual Windows Nokia phone just for kicks.

Edit: I had considered an Oppo Find 7 and was really lusting after the OnePlus One. What turned me off of the former was the price and for the latter it was going to be really difficult to get tech support if need be. For that price...I want some sort of support!

LOL

I think you're the only phone enthusiast I've encountered.

LOL! I was about to dispute that with the rationale that thanks to Android's fragmentation and lack of updates along with extensive international use you are virtually forced to upgrade to a new phone every two years.

Then, I realized...geeze...might as well admit I have a problem...

Edit: Should have seen me at airport security early in October...three smartphones...two tablets...one laptop. Had to take three trays!
