The Canadian Government is a joke. There is so much red tape and nobody wants to step on anyone else's feet so nobody does anything about anything. My brother a canadian citizen is missing in the area of Boston Mass.in 2006. He went there for a job and nobody has seen from him since then. This is totally of of his character as me and him are very close. He has not phoned home for neither our parents , sister, friends, nephews birthday. I fear for the worst. The RCMP, The Canadian Embassy in Boston, The Hamilton Police and the Toronto Police have done absolutely nothing. I keep being directed to someone else. This has been going on since June. Even our beloved Foreign Affairs Minister in Ottawa has turned a blind ear towards my plea. Any suggestions Please let me know.

Missing my dear brother my best friend badly.

In a very dark place
Go to the media. If they pick up on it the gov't will be shamed into action.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, but what do you expect the authorities to do? Was a missing persons report filed in Boston? Do you even know if he landed in Boston?

This should be posted in the Lounge anyway.

That is right, you have to get someone to take action. Try also to get the local MP's. to take an interest, or maybe someone with a high profile like Sheila Copps.

List him as a missing person! Generally this is done through the police where he was living before he moved to take the job in Boston.

I have tried the policein Boston they said he is a canadian and should be dealt accordingly by the canadian police. I called Toronto Police, hamilton Police and BC Police no help nowhere. The RCMP have not returned my call in 3 months.

This is because a missing person is missing from their last legal place of residence NOT where they "disappeared."

Go to the Station. Be polite but insistent. Keep going up the chain of command. Find out where your report should be filed presumably the last place he was a legal resident e.g. where did he vote - AND THEN FILE YOUR REPORT WITH THAT AGENCY.

Do you know any attorneys, if so talk with one. Talk with your MPP or MP or a Televison Station. Don't just complain!

Lady Patience,
First off welcome to TERB.

You said your brother is a Canadian but fail to mention his nationality, race or ethnic background. Just curious because this could have some bearing on his disappearance. We do have a 'war of terror' going on down here with plenty of border profiling taking place in spite of reports to the contrary. Don't mean to cause you unnecessary worry but if by chance he has a ME profile almost anything could happen today.

btw.. in BC, there is no police force known as the BC Police

Have you ever thought that maybe he does not want to be found?

First off - it is a Boston PD problem
Morally or ethically perhaps, legaly no it is not! A person is missing from their last legal address. If her brother just moved to Boston he was not a resident of Boston. Contacting the Canadian Consulate General in Boston
http://geo.international.gc.ca/can-am/boston/offices/default-en.asp is a good idea.

I am assuming that your brother is an adult, so you will have to be very convincing that this is way out of character for him - after all adults can make their own decisions.
This is another very good point make sure you point out that this is very unlike your brother's previous behaviour and that therefore you believe him to be endangered.

She said she contacted the Canadian Embassy in Boston to no avail. First off I would say trace his route..did he make it across the border? If he flew there would be a passenger manifest, if he drove there would be video surveillance at the border. You may want to hire a private investigator if there is no co-operation amongst the various authorities. Good luck in your search.
