TORONTO — Police have charged an imam at a Toronto mosque with 13 counts of sexual assault and say there may be more victims in other countries.

Det. Karen Armstrong said Wednesday Mohammad Masroor, 48, abused his position of authority when he taught the Quran to students at the Baitul Mukarram Islamic Society and in private homes in Toronto since arriving in Canada in 2008.

Armstrong says Masroor also worked and lived in France, Germany, Bangladesh, Hungary, Singapore, Sri Lanka and most recently in Florida and Michigan in the United States. Armstrong says they are appealing to the public to assist in finding other victims.

She says the charges involve five victims both male and female and that the investigation is ongoing.

I don't think we should jump to any conclusions here...let's wait until all the facts are in before we post any opinions on this case, right blackrock? I have connections with the muslim community and I have known many imams and they are fine upstanding people who only want to help their community. So I really doubt this man could have done this. We must give him the benefit of the doubt.

There are many fine upstanding priest in the catholic community, that is not to say that there are no pedophile priest in the church.

Oh, I might have jumped the gun, although I did qualify it by saying do it after he was found guilty, so maybe not.

I don't know many Imam or at least anyone who has been id'd as such and Im sure there are many upstanding members in the community.

While it is common in the catholic church, the protestants have more offences than the catholics. The muslims have their fair share as well.

Actually the rate of child diddling in the RC church is less than public schools, and you should use the past tense because the rate has been dropping like a stone since the mid eighties.

Is this guy guilty? Sounds like it. Is it a reflection on Islam and general...I think not.
