Tell me why people should listen to the Canadian governments for coronavirus info when these same governments operated genocidal campaigns against the aboriginal people of Canada
You listen to government?

The way Canadian Governments treated the aboriginals is genocidal, stripping kids from parents, forbidding them to speak their native languages, tolerating child abuse and murder, etc

It's cultural genocide. The government did not set out to eliminate them as a people, just make them in the European mold. Speak English or French, worship Christ, farm or work in a factory, and stop demanding the Crown live up to its obligations on the treaties it signed back in the day....

Well, considering anyone in government today had nothing to do with the Residential School system, its abuses or the cover up, I'd say it has nothing to do with what they say about the virus.

You may be against lockdowns or vaccinations or who the fuck knows, but don't conflate these two things. Both are serious.

The government today was silent until those mass graves were found and they refused to bring drinking water to many aboriginal communities

With what the Canadians pay for the Natives not only they all should have clean water, they should have Gatorade on tap as well.

On a more serious note, how are we as a country to move forward (from the Native Canadian point of view)?

You never will. This is your “slavery in the US” issue. It’s never meant to be resolved. It’s a class war that will continue as generations grow up. Those that are successful have great lives, those that struggle need someone to blame.

not a surprise

the government says approx 3200 dead others say 4100

either way they are going to find a few more k remains remains we already knew existed and already knew where they were buried

these are remains that have been in the ground for 50+ years some probably closer to one hundred years as most of these deaths occurred before the 1950's no vaccines not very effective medicines for diseases back then

Water is a more difficult situation than merely throwing money at it. If it were that simple, it wouldn’t be an issue. Some reserves have contaminants in the ground that cannot be effectively “filtered” out…. And nobody can convince them to move.

Trying not to victim blame here, but at some point there needs to be real discussions.

it’s more than 4100. Probably closer to 30-40,000 if in keeping with statistical probability of the time.

Can we compare those numbers to kids who died on reserves due to simple neglect and/or addiction or is it too soon?

Not the right time to have that discussion. Whataboutism distracts from coming to terms with what has happened in the past.

Child/Youth mortality amongst Inuit is more than eight times the national average. For southern indigenous it’s no less than five times greater. Is this the result of generational trauma or self inflicted? The conversation needs to happen. But it’s a different conversation from reconciling what happened at residential schools.

The lack of care for kids is whataboutism? I remember a time when it was a pretty fucking big deal. The CBC even did big segments on child suicides, prevelance of drug and alcohol addiction and simple abuse. I guess that problem is now solved. The conversation should be about the viability of the reserve system and their unsustainable way of existence- because a life it can't be called. Alas, that conversation will never happen.
