Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
I'm looking to purchase an MP3 player, and want to know how to go about loading it with music:confused: . Since I don't subscride to any downloading service(i-tunes etc.).....Can I rip the songs from a CD to the Windows Media player, and then transfer them to the MP3 player?

Thanks,
Rob

Yes, as already mentioned.

Once you have the ripped files on your PC, you can simply drag and drop them into your plugged MP3 player without stuff like iTune. Most hardware non pod MP3 players can do it that way, and usually they come with their own uploading/downloading software as well which you can choose not to use.

and sony is good but also uses its own software to deal with mp3s
Isn't there a hack for that?

Lol good question. I wish there was - but if anyone knows I am ready...

You can actually use a software that looks like internet explorer to drag and drop your files without using sonic stage but the player keeps on reading the tracks by album and artist instead of folder...
That's very annoying because if you gather all type of songs you like from your CDs then you need to edit the MP3 tags for the album and/or the artist.

Due to DRMI many players are now forcing you to use an app like windows media player. This prevents you from downloading from your computer then uploading onto another via the player.

I know iriver does this and it's a pain in the ass but you can create custom playlists by artist, album, date, category etc (though as mentioned you do have to edit the id tags...it took me forever to do my 12 gig).

True... but thanks to MP3 Tag or The Godfather you can script/automate the update for all the files...

OK, I'll bite: how do you do it? I mean, when you have 12 gig of files, some are for X band, some are for Y band, some are rock, some are dance, some are classical, etc etc

The quickest I found was cutting and pasting from one file to another but I have no idea how to automate it......

The sony connect program is complete garbage. I opted for a Sony mp3 over an Ipod and regret it. I scrapped their software and now just use my windows media player. No problems.
