Purchase long rubber dishwashing gloves to wear while doing this (you are dealing with caustics). Talk to your local hardware store - they are hard to shock in terms of questions like this.
The dollar store oven cleaners are just as good as the supermarket brands. ( $2 / can )
FYI- If your oven is a self cleaning oven and you use spray on or wipe on oven cleaner on it, you destroy the self cleaning coating and it becomes like a regular oven.
You have to eat good to live good. Sometimes turning on the big oven is more trouble than it is worth. Spending a few bucks for a halogen oven to cook your food quickly and in a healthy way will enhance your life. A halogen oven can be cleaned as quickly as washing a big bowl. You do not have to heat up your kitchen and it does a better job.
