Ever since I ran ccleaner and hitman pro my computer won't launch Acrobat.

I even tried deleting Adobe Reader and then installing latest version, still no go. (wish I had the full version of Adobe, but can't afford right now)

What's up with that? Anybody?

Did you uninstall adobe reader or did you just delete it?
I've never heard of ccleaner or hitman, are they tsr's? (do they run in the background)?
did you cclean after uninstalling?

I had a similar problem with macromedia flash and adobe's fix was I had to manually enter data into my registry (which was VERY weird imo) in order to get it to work. It was fine before adobe took it over but wouldn't run after they released their next version. Even previous versions wouldn't run....

Maybe you should try installing an older version of the reader.....

In Windozes goto :

StartMenu --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs -->

Click on Adobe Reader "V.R" where V.R is your version u have installed

Click Remove and completely uninstall it..

Reinstall ..

If you already did this and you still got issues then check your registry for existing adobe keys ..You may have to manually remove them..

Run Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Adobe <<-remove this tree

My computer was running slower then usual and was taking longer to boot up or download sites etc so a friend of mine suggested that I run ccleaner and hitman pro, clean registry etc. I did that and now it's back to normal speed wise maybe even quicker then it use to be. My puter is A31 Laptop, if that makes any difference. Only now like I say Adobe won't launch. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled to no avail. So I ask my buddy what's up with that? He says to me "oh yah, same thing happen to me" I said "did you fix it and how did you fix it?" He says "yah, my Dad fixed it for me" But he does not know how - and now his Dad is out of the country. I tell you man I wanted to smack the guy. :(

A nice big fattie cigar to the person who fixes this for me.

Doubt it the problem is due to ccleaner which is a great little utility that I have run a few times a day for months with no problems.
Also have Adobe Reader 8 and have had no problems with Adobe either, which just updated itself a couple days ago.

delete the acrobat folder

c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7.0
delete the entire acrobat folder
(or as much as you can install, you may need to boot into safe mode
[f8 at startup])
open registry editor

start-run type: regedit
hit ok

navigate to
HKEY_Current_USER\Software\Adobe
delete the acrobat reader folder

navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe
delete the acrobat reader folder
delete the "backup" folder
delete the "repair" folder

if you have other adobe products installed, do not delete the whole
backup and repair folders, instead navigate through those folders
and only delete the folders labled "acrobat" or "Reader" or both

use hijack this to remove explorer entries of adobe

I did all the above and it still didn't work, the key it seemed to be was below, i would still remove all the above, however the next steps are crucial to getting this stupid problem resolved

remove this folder:
c:\windows\installer\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A70000000000}

Then do a registry search for this

{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A70000000000}
(your folder may be different than this, i found this folder because wen i tried to install the new version of adobe it would stall and display this folder when it gave me the message that installation had failed, you can also navigate to this folder and find adobe installation files in it to tell for sure.)

I removed all root folders that had this entry in it, accept for the folders that where about file extensions and such, because those are still needed, after i removed all the folders that had this entry in it, the installation worked. Please be very carefull when removing folders in the registry because you could seriously damage your windows installation.

Not sure if this will help. I had something similar happen to me on numerous occasion.. Adobe for some odd reason crashes and closes, but launching it again would never work. What i discovered was, there's still a process of adobe running when checked with Taskmanager. After killing it ( Acro*.exe) i was able to launch Adobe

Adobe creates a temp file for every file that you open. I once had a user not able to open Adobe - just crashed. I opened their temp folder and there were thousands of adobe temps files. They are sequentially numbered and it reached the end of the numbering and started over. The crashing was due to the file already existing so it could not create it.
