Jenn, darling thank you so much.
As some of you may be aware, shopping is my second favourite pastime, no guesses for my first. From Loblaws to Food Basics (you’d be surprised at the amazing household gadgets they stock), from Holtrenfrew to Walmart, no store is safe when I venture out bargain hunting. Little can compare to the thrill of spotting a bargain, pouncing on it before anyone else and finding, should said bargain happen to be an item of clothing or, better yet - shoes, that it’s your size and it actually fits – pure bliss. However, my last few forays into Mall-land, have been unsatisfactory to say the least. I found myself questioning whether or not the sinfully delightful strappy black sandals were really necessary, did I truly need another book when I already possess a pile of novels, screaming to be read. No matter that Client A was appreciative of the lacy pink garter, or that Client B feasted his eyes upon me in my red negligee (I sincerely hope he was appreciating the female form within and not coveting the garment), no matter that my new hands free phone matches the décor of my apartment, it seemed as if the thrill was gone.
Until today that is, today I felt compelled to venture into new areas of consumer trading, namely the Baby department! I stood awed and transfixed, wondering where to look first, all those tiny garments, the toys, the gadgets, items began to pile up in my basket, perhaps my pleasure lay in the knowledge that the “joys” of childbirth were not mine to endure, that late night/early morning feeds would not be my responsibility. Whatever! I selected willy nilly until an assistant, enquired whether or not I was single-handedly stocking a nursery. Realization that I may have gone slightly overboard came and reluctantly one or two items were returned. Sorry Jenn, at least it will be less for you to tote home.
More than satisfied with my purchases and with hunter’s gleam once more in my eye, I walked the length of the mall, there at Tristan’s a gorgeous dress, what a bargain. A true find or two, at Bedo’s, earrings at the jewelers and even Sears, that much maligned store, kindly offered up three sweaters and a pair of pants – all at 30% off the sale price.
So Jenn, my thanks go out to you, for necessitating my return to Mall-land. Your forthcoming happy event has helped me to re-discover the joys of shopping, which of course not only aids Canada’s economy, fills my closets, but also gratifies. I am now busy compiling a list of all friends, associates and even passing acquaintances with young children for whom I can buy a gift, and of course, a suitable outfit to wear when presenting such gift.
From the bottom of my heart and purse - Thank you, you truly merit the title of Jenn Angel!
