So, I finally got a chance to make it out to Oasis for their Naked Karaoke night.
I had always figured naked karaoke would be a great way to combat two phobias simultaneously. If you're afraid of singing in public, then you focus on being naked. If you're afraid of being naked in public then you focus on your singing. Of course if you're afraid of both, then I dunno, maybe they throw some snakes into the mix or something to distract you.
Anyhow, the event was pretty typical for karaoke. The host was very personable, and certainly got into the mood of the event by wearing a Slave Leia outfit which gradually disappeared over the course of the evening. The binder of song selections had to be 4" thick, so there were lots of songs to choose from. The talent pool ranged from folks with good sets of pipes (my friend being one of those) to folks who, shall we say, sing "enthusiastically".
But in true Oasis spirit, everyone was cheered equally no matter what.
As for the "naked" component of the evening, well, not so much. It was mostly towelled karaoke, although one brave gent gave it a go sans towel, with the added challenge of two ladies attempting to fellatially distract him from singing (it didn't work).
Still, a fun night out. But be warned, if you get hooked on the karaoke, you might run out of time to play. Naked Karaoke typically runs 11 pm - 2 am. and is offered on the second Thursday of each month.
