NDP and Liberals are tied for second at 25 percent each. If the NDP beats the liberals for second place according to the rules as detailed by Iggy during the English debate, if who ever gets first gets first shot at gaining house confedence. If they fail to get house support then the next guys up in number two spot get a shot at it. So if Jack Layton beats Iggy and Harper fails to get the support of the house then Jack gets a chance to be PM.

In only one poll perhaps. How many times does this have to be pointed out?

I have a feeling that the person most worried about a NDP government would be Jack Layton. Instead of running his mouth, he'd be expected to actually get something done.

basketcase brings up an excellent point. An NDP government would be the best thing to ever happen to the Liberals. Layton, who for his entire career has had free reign to say anything he wants, to make any promises he wants, knowing that he would never be called to task on them, would flop as a PM. He would either implement his policies and drive hundreds of thousands of voters away from the NDP when they see the results, or he would govern rationally by moving to the center and abandoning his leftist principles, thereby destroying the NDP as a party. Either way, left-leaning voters are driven to the Liberals, over the longer term. Interesting.

Has this twit run anything in his life other than a campaign?

Any significant increase by the NDP at the expense of the Liberals would be a death blow for Iggy.

Oh he'll do something already, but you won't like it. His strength is now coming from Quebec, he's giving Duceppe a run there.

Iggy already swore that he would not form a coalition, so talk of either iggy or jack as PM is nonsense. Let's just hope that they don't cancel each other out and give harpo his dictatorship.
Notice that Harper claims he has no alternative if he gets another minority , that he must present the same budget and trigger another election.....did he ever hear of presenting a budget that might actually gain the confidence of the elected house?

Layton has not ruled out a coalition however, in fact he says he is open to it.

How many times does this have to be repeated.

In a multi party parliament as we have in Canada. the opposition is always a coalition, especially in a minority parliament. Harper keeps droning on and unfortunately people are listening to him and not challenging him on that point..

If the Liberals and NDP both wind up with 25% of the vote, the BQ may well end up with the second largest number of seats.

As much as I love seeing train mocked--something he so often deserves--in this case I'm skeptical. I had always thought Layton got a PhD in poly sci and then taught it at Ryerson as a professor before going into politics. I did look and I couldn't find anything on google linking Layton to Magna. However, his biographical information out there is a bit thin--so perhaps you're right.

Anyway do you have a reference to back that up?

But as he keeps repeating, it's the opposition who forced an unwanted election.

Harper's plainly never run anything other than his mouth. He's been a political wonk since the day he was born.
I believe he had a job running the country. Doesn't that count (even if you think he did a poor job of it)?

Well, he had help with the largest cabinet in Canadian history, a few hundred civil servants, some who quit and some who he fired, and some people might say he still screwed it up. If that's the sum total of his CV management history, I'd be worried

Sure, but it's his first crack at it, he's been a horribly incompetent manager. I guess that's explained by his complete lack of real world experience.
