This year I am going to shop for a winter car long before the snow falls. I like a full size something or other with awesome comfort but even more awesome traction and safety. I'm thinking a Jeep Wrangler but they are hellish uncomfortable. Really .. I'm just opening up a discussion on the topic as it may actually be cool to get a totally impractical winter beater toy. Like an old land yacht 1968 Cadillac Eldorado with a 500CID motor ! ( my mistake .. the 500 cu in was not introduced until 1970 but you get the idea )

never drive a car that is worth anything any time of year. so many fucking horrible drivers on the road, last thing you want to do is pay for a car then have some retard hit you 10 mins later. i never pay for cars. actually my awesome red minivan that i had and got rid of i paid for. my wagon, malibu, f150, 2 buick regals (2002 and 1991), citation, cutlass and silverado i all got for free.

What is your budget? You can get a 5 to 7 year old Cadillac Deville for under $15,000. Safe and good in the snow. Fuel is a killer though. Probably a 4 cyl Toyota Camry or Honda Accord would be the way to go.

Well $20K or so. More or less. That gives me some room to play with a Jeep Wrangler perhaps or maybe a older Chevy Suburban. Maybe.

my brother got a 2005 f150 of kijiji that he drove all winter for 800$ that was in incredible condition and at the end of the winter he put it back on kijiji and sold it for 1000$.

For $20K, you can get a used Cadillac DTS, which is a Deville with newer sheetmetal. They're big comfortable cars that have everything you need. Also good for the summertime when you need to go golfing. You can easily shove 4 sets of golf clubs in the trunk.

I drive a near new Japanese car in the winter with winter tires. I have to change the car every few years for business reasons. The last time I changed the car I had winter tires that did not go to the car dealer in the trade. I put an ad to sell the tires and a dude showed up to buy the winter tires on rims. He talked pretty big and flung some high and mighty BS around. He was telling me that the car he came in was his winter beater. ( Audi A6, about 5 or 6 years old ) I had one winter tire on the rim outside the house for him to check out. He agreed to buy them and paid by peeling $100 bills from his roll. That is when I hit the garage door opener to get the other tires and he saw what I drove when there was no snow on the ground. His eyes bugged out of his head and he clammed up and took off with his used tire purchase.

There has to be a story to go with all that anger. Personally I think there are an endless pile of morons behind wheels out there and that is why I drive the most modern and most safety featured car money can buy. Along with comfort and some performance. A good friend, an old army buddy in fact, is a fire fighter and he told me from very real experience what he sees on the side of the road. He knows what cars survive well and what cars destroy themselves and their passengers. So I'll stick with my expensive german cars and full size trucks so long as some rice rocket powered moron is out there racing about. In the world of safety there is no replacement for inertia. Money can always be replaced and I'd like to keep all my limbs as well as those of my loved ones.

cars are a waste of money and are for men that lack personality to make up for it.

Gee Simon,

If you can afford it, you should live a little. Why not have a comfortable car. Have you ever owned a car that you really love to drive? As I said, the car I drive in the winter months is a Japanese car that you see quite often on the roads. It its very safe with every safety system available. I drive my back wheel drive car because it rides like a dream. I am curious to know what type of character and personality building car you drive.
