To make a long story short, i found water in the basement (unfinished with a landing). It's in a small part of the basement and almost the entire landing is soaked with water. I fixed the where the water was leaking from. My question is am i screwed? Would i have to change the carpet? There doesn't seem to be any structural damage but i'm not a contractor.

If its the foundation wall leaking, the best repair is from outside and covered with delta wrap IMO,there are some repairs done from the inside using an epoxy based product that are injected into the crack, Ive seen good results with those as well, but if it were Me, and I was planning on staying in the house, I would get some quotes on excavation and repair from outside using a drainage membrane over the repaired area.

Leaky basement repairs can be pricey

Yep....

As to the carpet, rent a steam cleaner and it will be fine.

It will smell like a wet dog for a few days though.

Just make sure it is D R Y and if need be, rent a carpet blower/dryer from stephensons.....if you can, open up some windows the ventilate the area so you can exchange the damp air inside for the dryer air outside.

The reason I say this is most basements have mold spores and all they are looking for is a place to take hold. If it is damp for even a couple of days it's going to get bad...fast.

As for the leak, you didn't say where it was from...was it a pipe? Or the foundation?

I've had a carpeted basement flood several times and it dried out fine after about a week and lots of fans and a dehumidifier (very important!).

But you have to address the root cause of the problem because it'll just happen again.

Having a good dehumidifier in the basement is key, while mine runs heaviest in the summer (I don't have Central air), it still removes some moisture from time to time thru the dry winter months.

Fixing cracks could get expensive.

You may also want to check your down spouts, ground slope, window wells. You can get rid of 80% of your problems by addressing that before you start major digging.

In my case  was the gap between metal flashing & the rubber membrane that suppose to divert water away from foundation, instead channel water toward the foundation. It was above ground. A coat of waterproof sealant easily solved the problem.

Source of another leak was cracked PVC pipe overly stressed ie: Plumber apprentice screwed up. A simple weekend job to replace the cracked PVC joint.

Dehum & fans did the trick.
