I am a computer idiot. I am currently running Explorer 7. Everytime I turn on my computer it asks me to upgrade to Explorer 8. Is this a good idea? Is Explorer 8 easy to learn/operate?
Thanks

You really won't notice much of a difference... As Punter said, Just do it! And, when you've done it and it starts asking about , just do that too!

you could go into the windows update and right click on the internet explorer update and say hide details or disable auto updates entirely...not recommended but would get rid of the problem...

At some point Microsoft will stop supporting Explorer 7 so you have no choice but to upgrade to IE 8 or switch to another browser.

Internet Explorer 9 is the latest version. I would suggest using Firefox or Google Chrome instead.
This.

With that being said, MS has has beat IE pretty deep into the OS so it's always a good idea to have the latest version of IE as delivered by MS. It often fixes a bunch of bugs and security issues that can reach well beyond where you think your web browser ends. It can also block / hide other critical MS updates.

But really, update IE, but don't ever use it for browsing...

For security reasons, I would not recommend using any version of Explorer other than version 9. If you are running Windows XP operating system, the highest Explorer version you can upgrade to is Internet Explorer 8, which was released in 2009. Microsoft last released a cumulative security update about a year ago for Explorer 8 but due to it's age, it still has various security deficiencies that were corrected in version 9. If you are running Vista or Widows 7 operating systems, you can upgrade to Explorer 9 .

Otherwise, if you have an XP operating system, make sure you run Automatic Update (it's in your Control Panel) and you should be using Firefox ( www.mozilla.org ) or Chrome by Google, since those browsers are updated with the most current security fixes and can run on XP.

Even then. Seriously. Unless you've already been using IE, put firefox / chrome on a USB key, along with a decent firewall and virus scanner (if you don't have one), and keep your virgin install of the net until you have a decent browser, firewall, and virus scanner installed. Then immediately do any MS / vendor updates, and then install all of the rest of the software you need.

AGREED!!!
Haven't used IE in years and have no intention of using it anymore.
It seems only newbies and peeps who know little about PCs use IE.....and then they wonder why they have PC problems....
