My IE8 broswer is getting certificate error all of a sudden: There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

I did the following:

To clear the certificate error go to Tools --> Internet Options from the menu of IE 8.

Click on the Advanced tab and scroll down to the security section. Clear the boxes for: "Check for publisher's certificate revocation" and "Check for server certificate revocation

It did not work, still having the problem, any ideas? Thanks

Also I can't login to my MSN live Messenger.
Message: Signing in to Windows Live Messager failed because the service is temporarily unavailable.

It must be something screwed in my laptop becuase I don't have any problems on my desktop.

RE: "There is a problem with the website's security certificate"

If I remember correctly, when the error message page appears, go to the bottom of the page. There is a button called (something like) "View certificate" in the bottom right corner.

Click on it, a new window pops up, which gives you another button at the bottom called (something like) "Get certificate" or "Install certificate". Click it then follow the instruction to complete the process (I cannot remember how anymore, so you have to muddle your way through).

What you need to do is to let your browser get the website security certificate, install it and verify to accept it everytime you access that website.

I think what you did is a general method of changing certificate checking / notification. If you do not verify and accept the security certificate of the particular website you want to access, you will get an error message everytime.

No idea about the Live Messenger thing cuz I don't use it.

is the date and time correct on your computer? that will cause the problem you are having
make sure you have all the MS updates especially service packs and security

also i suggest you move away from IE and try Firefox or my preference Google Chrome.

Ditto. IE is not worth the trouble. Chrome, while not without it's problems, is excellent. The errors you will find with chrome, should you notice them, won't take your computer down with them, and have so far been less dangerous overall to your PC.
