Hi there, I have asked friends and family but nobody seems to know any answers so I am wondering if any enlightened members on this board can help me out..... I was involved in a car accident in which I was stopped at a red light and the police were chasing another vehicle. Well one of the vehicles hit me during this chase and the damage was very minor. The damage amounted to $500.00 and my deductible is $1000.00 so that and the fact the the driver did not have insurance I opted not to go through my car insurance. The police wanted my statement and I agreed, I just wanted the money to get my car fixed so they filed restitution and I have to go to court to testify I guess for them and my money when criminal charges are pursued. So now I get a letter from my insurance co. claiming they know about the accident and proper procedures must be done. Am I screwed? I haven't called them back yet and don't know what to say. Help is appreciated. Thanks

bjfan1,...Your rate will NOT go up in these circumstances! you are clearly an innocent party, and the Insurer will recognize this!

If they don't and some asshole underwriter who thinks he/she is a bigshot trys to give you a hard time, you can send a written complaint to the company President with a copy to the Supt of Insurance for Ontario (Government Regulater) You'll be amazed at how fast they will correct the injustice! but I digress....

The Insurer must be notified of ALL accidents, since in many cases (obviously not yours) there may be injured parties claiming damages or a third party driver giving them HIS version of the accident. Naturally your insurer needs to have YOUR version of what happened, in case the matter goes to Court many months down the line!

Such a statement tends to be more accurate and complete if it is given immediately, rather than weeks or months later. This is why the Insurer contacted you and their request is quite reasonable!

When I got my Sunfire new in 1995 I was paying about $220/mth for insurance. After 7 years, zero tickets or claims and 280,000kms I was paying $113/mth. Last year I inherited an early 90s Chrysler sedan (with a huge back seat :) )with 60,000kms on it and pay $83.00/mth. I've always used "The Hub Group" in Brampton and seem to get great rates.

The Hub Group is a good reputable brokerage, Taylor, and you certainly are enjoying great rates, obviously reflecting your excellent driving record!

Now, ahem, what exactly have you planned for that back seat??

Never mind the leather! When are you having a back seat party Taylor? I think on the other hand, a twosome would be more romantic and much more fun!
