Price range is ~ 600- 800.
Its a gift for someone. Looking for something thin, with durable glass, and good performance. Any reviews of your own tablets will be helpful.

So far considering: Sony, Asus transformer prime, or a Samsung Galaxy

The Sony tablet is junk, it can only be viewed in portrait, one side of it is unusually thick and the reviews of it say its too slow.

Asus Transformer Prime (released in Dec 2011) is being replaced Asus Transformer Prime 2 which is due out in a few months. Asus states the Prime 2 will not be plagued by the same Wifi and GPS issues that the original Prime has.

That leaves the Galaxy Tab 10.1. If you want Android, go for that or wait for the Prime 2. If you're looking at other OS', I would give the iPad 3 a consideration. It should be announced in March, available for preorder shortly afterwards with a shipping date of April.

I like the Tablet S; it's a smaller size than the iPads and more ergonomically designed. I've played around with it in a couple of stores and it seems fast enough.

I have the Galaxy for myself. But on reviews I keep hearing how the Asus beats it in every way.

I have an iPad 2 and love it. I've had it since they first came out and have never had an issue with it. I've dropped it a couple of times and I've got to say that it's durable (although I'm usually pretty careful, accidents do happen). I did put a screen protector and protective back cover on it from new. The back cover cracked from the drops, but the iPad is still fine. This was the first apple product I've owned and it was very easy to use from day one (very intuitive/user friendly). Since buying this, I've gotten an iPhone and a Mac. I haven't tried the android or asus products, so I can't comment. I have two family members who bought blackberry playbooks and I have played around with them. They are a bit small for me, but they seem to be pretty good. Given their price point, I think they are worth looking at. When I bought my iPad, the playbook wasn't much cheaper, so I didn't consider it. However at half the price of the other tablets, I might consider it if I was buying today.

The new ASUS Transformer Prime has a Tegra 3 chip which is quad core and much faster. But many users have reported issues with the WiFi and GPS. Just google "transformer prime gps issue" to see.

Always read reviews with a grain of salt. Reviewers have to balance their reputation and staying on good terms with the PR team. Too many critical reviews and the blog may find themselves blacklisted.

If you must have the Prime, wait for 2nd one coming out later.

the ASUS Transformer Prime is the one to get if you can't wait for 2nd one due in Q2. the wifi/gps issues were corrected recently with a firmware upgrade. check the many youtube comparison videos with iPad 2 and you will see it easily outperforms the Apple in every way.

There are two right answers here.... if you want a low cost 7" tablet buy the Amazon Fire - cheap, great content, runs android apps, not the top of the line HW but a great package for $199 - I've send two nephews these as gifts, they love them.

If you want a high end tablet there is really only one to chose from, rumors are the iPad 3 will be announced on March 7 and available a couple of weeks after that.. pick up one of those.

Always suspected articles like this were true...

http://gizmodo.com/5609444/iphones-...oid-users-plus-which-camera-makes-you-sexiest

As a gift for "someone" (likely a woman!) you simply cannot go wrong with an iPad.

Save your anti-Apple rants for your fellow haters, the woman does NOT want to hear about it. She simply wants something that is easy to use, has lots of apps and is current and cool.

For interest... I was having some fish and chips on Friday night at a nice place in Leaside. (Olde Yorke IIRC)

There was a nice couple around 50 beside me. Nice pleasant second/third date I suspect. Anyways, the guy seemed to be on his way to getting laid.

Until the issue of Apple came up.

HE went off on a mini-rant with the same anti-Apple speech. I was thinking to myself... SHUT UP BROTHER! STFU!

She went so cold on him and hardly ate any more. After a few minutes he realized he was going off the rails, but instead of backing down and salvaging something, he went all blackrock on her and tried to prove how right he was etc.

She went all cool, polite but the warmth was gone. He got to vent, made NO difference to her opinion and went home alone!

Another possibility to consider is the motorola xoom. It's a year old now so you can probably get a good deal on it, but hardware wise it's really stacked. It's also been (or about to be depending on the model) upgraded to the latest operating system. It doesn't really fit your requirement for thin though. It's not as thin as other tablets, but that's because it's got excellent batteries. I charge it about once a week and that's with moderate usage. If I broke mine today I would replace it with the same.

Unless the person you're buying it for is a power user that likes to tinker then definitely add ipad to your list of possibles, but don't let the apple people in here convince you as they all have little to no objectivity, do your own research.

If those are the options, Samsung Galaxy no QUESTION. However, I've read/heard (on the youtubez) that the Asus Prime is great too.

ipad is good too, but I'd wait until the new one comes out and hopefully the prices on the ipad 2's drop somewhat, IF they do.
But if you need one now, get the Galaxy.

LOL, that would explain the anger.....

It's a numbers game, apple was in the tablet game early and brands heavily, so more people buy them, so of course that explains a lot.
Much like saying, people who owned imports in the 90s had more sex than those who owned domestic cars. ;)
You're a numbers guy apparently, do the proverbial "math" and some deductive reasoning, of course the the latter doesn't require numbers and more cognitive processing, so you may run into problems with that.

Actually, the article is making this assertion about iPhone users vs Android.... and we both know there are many more Android phone users... as to cognitive processing... an important first step is comprehension, which you failed....

I and several of my friends all have playbooks and my wife has an ipad2. Personally I find the ipad clumsy in size and difficult to transport. The playbook syncs seamlessly to my BB and I love the size and features. One thing missing from all of them is the USB key input and the ability to accept sim cards.

So I wonder if people who use Google searches get laid a lot?
Since Android doesn't have a brick and mortar store like apple. I've seen the girls that go into apple stores, very purrrdy, no doubt.
But I'd love to see the girls that use the googles to search as well...
