My HP laptop won't boot. It will turn on with a black screen.

I did some research and it could be one of the following:

1. CPU not functional.

2. BIOS corruption failure.

3. Memory module error not functional

3. Graphics controller not functional.

5 System board not functional.

I think I can test 2 and 3 by myself, need help on how to procedures.

I am trying to do 2 without success.

I did a reset by removing the battery and cord, press the ON button for a few mins and still the same.

I did F8 for safe mode and F12 for recovery but a blank white screen appears for a few seconds and then the black screen.

I tried to boot with the Ubuntu disk but does no work.

What else can I do to complete this test?

Had a similar problem with a ~4 yr old Core2 duo HP laptop.
Went to the HP and Linux boards for help.
It ended up being a dead HDD.
Got a new HDD, put it in and it works fine now running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04.

Yeah, do the tests if you can.

Mine would not run Windows but the Ubuntu disk ran fine. That was because the faulty HDD was being totally bypassed. When I tried to install Ubuntu I had problems, it would not install. One time Ubuntu began installing then stopped at 95% complete and Ubuntu gave me an 'error report' saying the install was aborted because of a failing HDD. It recommended saving what you wanted off the drive ASAP and replacing it before it fails completely. Replacing the bad HDD was easy, took 5 minutes.
