Looking to buy a 4 in 1 printer was wondering which make and model would be ideal for an imac...there are so many printers out in the market and they look good with a decent price sticker just want to make sure i get the best bang for my buck. What is you opinion on wireless units? Any help would be appreciated folks.

Printers are now so cheap. Don't be surprised if in a very near future, you go Best Buy and pick up any printer for FREE!

They, printer manufactures, make $$ by selling the inks! The more you print, the more they like you!

Your homework is to do research and read reviews on what printers give you the most for your $$ when printing.

I used to be a fan of wirless printers but although I'm kind of an expert, I had my share of headaches. When I needed to print something fast ... printer was unavailable because my microwave was ON!

Long story short ... this is what I use: HP C6380. I bought it a year ago and am still happy with it. I needed some inks...ordered it on HP Canada ... less than 48 hours ... I received them during this last X-MAS time! Free shipping!

BTW, I have a mix of MACs and Windows based machines and no problem printing from either platforms.

i agree with disturbia - we're not far away from 'here - take it' printers...

as for me, i highly recommend the hp officejet pro L7680

does it all - fax, scanner, copier - but here's some things i really like:

1-separate toners for each colour
2-separate b&w and colour fax modes (really cool when faxing to another colour fax)
3-built in media readers (with lcd display to preview pics and print direct from card

and for a mac guy, it's white and grey!

Well ... um ... I got my printer for free when I bought my iMac. I have a Canon MX310 colour printer/fax/copier ... So far it has been a pleasant surprise. The quality is good and speed adequate for personal use. It is not wireless - but I do have it "network" connected so I can print to it from multiple computers in the house. Of course the ink is outrageously expensive. I have not bothered to seek out "refill" centres for it, but I notice that Grand and Toy has one for many printers. Refills are cheaper ... it only uses 2 cartridges colour and B/W.

Thanks for all the reply's brothers...will take all the advice into consideration.

to-guy69 do you have that canon printer-if so what's your opinion of it's overall performanc

Razon i could be somewhat of an impulse buyer, so i hear ya on not buying something cause it looks pretty. I guess what i need it for is mostly documents and pictures...what are proofs?...what do you mean by large format?...professional image printing?...can you give me some examples of these. Sorry not really tech savy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Disturbia so how come you went with that model...sounds like your pleased with it's overall performance.

bennyboy68 what's the price for that model? are the toners expensive to replace? what are the advantages of having separate toners for each colour? are they pretty much refillable (is that a word?) at any print shop kiosk like you see in the malls?

ispank how expensive are the re-fills...what do you use the printer for?

price on the hp website is $400, so i'll bet you can buy it almost anywhere for under $300

separate ink tanks allow you to only replace the ones needed - as opposed to many all-in-ones that have a single cartridge for 'colour'

they also offer hi-capacity black

i would NEVER refill cartridges, so i can't comment

they do sell multi-packs of cartridges at costco - that's where i get them...

I didn't need the FAX option. One of my old iMac machines takes care of this for me. I also prefer the separate toners for each colour. It saves $$ big time. Based on some reviews, the print quality is very good and most number of pages when printing either B&W or Colour. I like HP printers and last but not least, it was on sale from Best Buy ;)

It has a built-in Ethernet port which allows me to print from any of my MACs as well as Windows machines.

Yes, I am very happy with it.

Whatever brand you choose, check their web site to make sure they fully support OS X. I think HP & Canon probably the only ones out there which always have drivers ready for MAC machines. Some others take months to release working drivers for OS X. I bought a Lexmark printer which took them 8 months to support Leopard! I sold it on eBay!
