Nero 7 burning issue!

I've come across a problem with Nero 7 and after downloading a bit torrent file the only way to burn this file is by using Nero since this isn't a vob file or other.
So, Nero did it's thing in coding this file but now it's giving me an error message saying: "There is not enough space to burn this compilation onto this disc". Nero is actually asking for a CD-R/RW disc and won't take a DVD disc with more storage. There is 830 MB to be written onto this disc but of course the disc only holds 702 MB! Do they actually make CD-RW discs with more storage? I thought only DVD discs had more storage capacity?

Can someone help me solve this issue since bit torrent burns this file a a windows movie file to begin with which doesn't even give me the option to use other burning programs like DVD shrink.

Thanks!

When you launch Nero Burning ROM, two windows will open: The big one (labeled 'Nero Burning ROM), and a smaller centered one (labeled 'New Compilation)
In the 'New Compilation' window (near the top left) there's a drop-down box.
It sounds like you have "CD" selected. Use the drop-down box to change that to "DVD", then it should allow you to burn the file onto a DVD.

You were right! Thanks!

I cannot believe I overlooked this, lol.

Although, this movie that I burned will only play on my computer because of it being an AVI file and I don't have the program to convert this so I can watch it on a regular DVD player.

I actually tried using Nero Express and burning it as a project (DVD-Video) where you can edit the progect etc.... However for some reason it still says
"there is not enough space for the burning process:There are 4551MB available for the temp folder but the recording process will need aprox 4568"

Frustrating!

You can use Nero Vision to convert the AVI to DVD format (vob files), but I'm not sure if the file is too big to do it.
When you launch Nero Vision >Make DVD> DVD Video, in the bottom right corner in the drop down box, change it to "DVD-9" (which is basically a dual layer DVD, but gives you more space for the conversion)
If Nero Vision can convert a file that size, save it to your hard drive, then use Nero Recode to compress it so it will fit on a single layer DVD.

I've never had a file this large and Nero Vision won't work with DVD-9 to give me more space. In addition, Nero Recode ( there are more than a few options to select when you open that up, I've tried a few) and it didn't allow me to click "next" after I imported the file.

Anymore sugestions? Thanks:confused:

I still suggest trying Nero Vision but if the file is that big, you have to split the movie into 2 DVDs
Instead of selecting "Make DVD", try "Make Movie". Import the AVI file, then use the editor in the top left to cut the second half of the movie off.
If that works, do it again cutting the first half of the movie out.

If Nero Vision doesn't work, do a Google search on "AVI to DVD converters" and you may have to buy something.

Hey Robo. I had the same problems. I went and bought the 8.5 gig ones, they are expensive and some wouldn't play properly. I was going to buy software converter to convert wmv files to DVD playable but then some Terbite suggested I buy a DVD player that supports Divx, you can but one at Wally Mart for fourty bucks. Now I can burn a whole season onto 1 DVD in about 15 minutes a 4 speed. Works great.

I wanted to thank everyone for their help and I came up with the best solution and with a little research it worked!

I want to give out my little secret for those who were kind enough to help and here it is.

Download: ConvertXtoDVD!

What an AWESOME program that will burn AVI to DVD; Mpeg, Mpeg, Mpeg4, MP4, VOB, WMV, DV and stream formats to DVD. It converts your files into a compliant DVD Video set of files and burns it on a DVD media. The ConvertXtoDvd does not need an external AVI codec download. It uses its own AVI codecs!

here is the link to download:
http://rapidshare.com/files/6412992/ConvertXtoDVD_2.1.3.159.rar

The major problem was the amount of space needed on a DVD and I decided to use my 4.7 DVD-RW to burn it and now it's all good!

Thanks again!
