Just wondering if anyone can verify this, but I heard somewhere that the NHL buyout deadline is Friday 11:59pm, basically before the draft.
If this is true, it puzzles me as to why the Leafs havent made a move yet.
I think it's noon on Friday. I'm not absolutely certain, but I know it's at some point on Friday.
I'm not sure what's going on with the Leafs. Nolan is the buyout everyone is talking about, but it's a sticky situation with the injury and all. The union will be down Fergusons back pretty quickly on that one.
I'd personally like to see them keep Nolan. So he's due 5.x million (5.3? I'm not sure, somewhere around there) but his pay while he's on the DL doesn't go against the cap so it isn't an immediate hit. And if he comes back in January/February/Whatever only then does his salary go against the cap. So in effect, Nolan might only cost 2 to 3 million against the cap (mind you he's still only played half the season, but anyways...). He's only 33 and I honestly think he has a couple good years left in him. Besides, the Leafs gave up so much for him I'd hate to give up on him that easily.
I'm really up in the air on Belfour. He'll be a 5+ million dollar man as well (pushing 6 million, perhaps). On one hand we have a 40 year old guy with a bum back. But on the other hand we have a guy who can steal any game against any opponent. Tough call JFJ has to make. But I'm pretty sure the Leafs will keep Belfour though, so my thoughts are moot.
EDIT. I'd like to see the Leafs dump Domi. Nothing against Domi, but there's no way in hell he's worth anything more than a million when you consider the new marketplace the NHL is in. He's like a 750k man, in my opinion.
