Fuck it is weird seeing Hockey on an American channel. The production is ok, but the play by play is weak. Thank god they don't have the fucking light on the puck like FOX did in past years. Is this broadcast national? I wonder what the ratings will be like.

I think there are two regionals with the other being the COL-DAL game. I think they'll do coverage like Fox and ABC with a couple regionals each week. Plus, this is all part of leading into the hype for the Olympics and NBC got a sweet deal from the NHL regardless.

The team doing DET-NYR aren't horrible since John Davidson is okay and Mike Emrick does play-by-play for NJ. Emrick also seems to be the voiceover on the NHL's magazine weekly wrapup shows.

Face it though. CBC does hockey best and HNIC will never be rivalled by a Yank telecast. Add to that Cole and Neale and you've got to be considered spoiled rotten!

Pierre also does crap for the OLN broadcasts too. He's a big hockey slut for sure. Next thing ya know he'll be playing guitar in a Michael Jackson video since Jacko is a "monster".

Yeah the CBC's HNIC is hands down the superior broadcast. The American play by play guys aren't interesting and you can tell they have no idea what they are talking about. I mean they have some hockey knowledge but it isn't genuine. They try to throw in football, basketball, and baseball inuendos, but come on. I think if the Canadian production team was shown in the States, the ratings would be higher and more liked. But hey, in any case, I am glad to see NBC picking up the NHL and its good for hockey overall.

BTW, I am talking about the Rangers/Wings game. I did manage to catch the OT broadcast between Boston and Dallas. Their broadcasters were better then that of the Rangers/Wings game. As for ratings, it is nice that there was a shootout in the games presented, because shootouts always draw good ratings....

Bob Cole is completely done!!!!!!! He doesn't have a clue why the play has been whistled down half the time anymore, and is always behind on the action. He used to be one of the best, but unfortunately that was YEARS ago. CBC should really let him go.

I can't stand Bob Cole either. Man that guy is senile. I actually turned off the audio for a while on last weeks game. He doesn't have a clue what's going on out on the ice. I cringe at the sound of his voice. I yell at the TV all the time because he has no idea why a whislte goes. I'm affraid he won't leave until he dies. He's been around too long and the hocke community won't let him go.

Obviously you have never heard Bob Cole & Harry Neale call games....pathetic.
If you had to hear Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond call games, you'd understand the contrast. Redmond is the definition of "lost" and "homer" (and not Simpson).

I have the NHL package & see alot of games, there are alot of good American broadcasters. The Fox sports broadcasts are well done & established.
