 So yesterday I get set to do a scan of my PC. After I open Norton up, I go the live update. Everything downloads ok, starts installing and on the last install (Symantec Security Hardware 1 of 1 ) it freezes. I try to go to the task list but this doesn't work, nothing responds so I shut down manually. After I restart my Norton doesn't work, I can't open it, nothing, I am unprotected so I turn on my Windows firewall.
I get on the Symantec site, run just about every diagnostic tool they have and even a manual live update (off their site), where I get some error codes. It says that my Norton is allright though. I get in a Symantec chat room with a techy and they aren't much help.
Grrrrrr FRUSTRATION!
Go to Google. I find a group and in a nutshell I went back to a restore point that I had set manually. It restored my PC where I could get my Norton up. I ran a live update after a scan and the updater doesn't work (on the same install as last time when it froze). So I run it aghain and BINGO it worked!
I did ask the Symantec tech if they were having problems with this on their end and he would not respond to this.
Has anyone else suffered with this?

I didn't have a problem with norton to the extent you had. I had to go to their diagnostic site and that fixed my problem.

THough I DID have a major problem with real player after adobe took it over. After I updated it I couldn't get sound. Their tech knew squat about the problem and was absolutely NO help.

Eventually I found the answer online and what it was was I had to manually input something into the reqistry that the update needed but didn't automatically put there.

I stopped using Norton years ago.

Frustration over setting up POP email accounts using a DSL service provider was the reason I found something better.

What do you use in its place?
I use AVG Pro.

AVG was free but I'm not sure if they continue to support the free version.

There are other free programs out there that are as good or better than Norton.
