From the article it would seem that Nicholas Kristof is more upset at backpage having sexual advertising, than he is about kidnapping and sexual exploitation of a minor. Does Mr. Kristof honestly believe that cases just like this girls didn't occur in the 60's, 70's and 80's?

I expect the New York Times to get the headline correct. If it was a grammar mistake you'd be disgusted as well.
Perhaps you should read at least the first couple of paragraphs of the article before determining if the headline is correct.

New York Times said:
One evening when she was 12 years old she got into a fight with her mom and ran out to join friends. “I didn’t want to go home, because I thought I’d get in trouble,” she said, and a friend’s older brother told her she could stay at his place.
I believe one is considered to be a teenager when one reaches the age of 13. Thus, a 12 year old would be "not quite a teen."

You're missing the point! She's still a minor and this entire sex trafficking industry is disgusting.
If we can't rely on the OP to state his point, useful discussion will cease. Yours is a worthy point to add, but it remains to be seen what topic friendz4evr meant to address by dropping a commercial newsclip with a bad headline without additional comment.

Absent that, it has to stand as is, and the misleading title is as response-provoking as any other part of it. One should recall that in the brief lifetime of this Board, Canadian girls of that age were legally able to consent; these things are neither absolute nor unanimously established. Was there not a thread recently about a boy of similar age benefitting from the sexual attentions of an NFL cheerleader?

As I read in the article, she was 12 when she was in the clutches of the pimp, so the title is valid.
She is NOW 15.

Once, Brianna says, she looked out her window — and there was her mother on the street, crying and posting “missing” posters with Brianna’s photo. “I tried to shout to her through the window,” she remembered. But her pimp grabbed her by the hair and yanked her back. “If you shout, I’ll kill you,” she remembers him saying.

Wow, what an epic story element. It's almost as if the whole thing is fictional....

Glad she got away if true.
