Someone at work was asking me about a problem with their laptop computer.

The DVD burner doesn't seem to be working.
WHen he loads a cd or dvd in the drive and clicks on it he gets the message

E:\ is not accessible
Incorrect function

Does this mean the drive head reader on notebook is burned out and he needs a new dvd burner installed in the notebook?
Thanks for any ideas.

More info is required in order to provide any suggestion.

Operating System?

Laptop make / model?

Last installed new programs / tools and etc.?

Until then, check this out. It may help. ---> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315350

Almost always, that Roxio software is the problem.

One last thing. Power off the laptop. Remove the CD/DVD device and put it back. Just in case if it's not connected properly or dirt inside.

It is a Toshiba A200 with Windows XP.
Anyway, he told me he went into properties on the computer, did some hacking around and the DVD burner started working again.
Thanks anyway.

I am glad to hear that it wasn't a hardware issue. Take care...
