what I don't find offensive is being diligent and thorough in knowing who you are letting into your country. And illegals should not be getting the same benefits.

I TOTALLY agree.
There are many Muslims, Jamaicans, Hindus, Tamils, etc, who have been here only a couple years, maybe less, who are full citizens and getting full coverage. They would be included in Harpers definition of Old Stock.
Sadly the left, has politicized his attempt at identifying illegals and making them wait their turn for benefits. Of course, the left never digs deep enough to really understand, just whip out the 'Anything but Harper' mantra. Sad really.
Yeah, I can't stand Harper's disrespectful politics of division, with these various levels of how Canadian one is.
