Should they be held considering a number of medical people say no due to the number of variants out there?
If your son/daughter was an athlete preparing to go would you be worried, try to convince them not to go even though they had trained most of their life?
Is it Gold vs Health in the long run?

If they are double dosed and being kept apart from everyone else, and suitable quarantines, I can't see the harm at least in terms of the plague.

However I don't know if I could trust every country to do that.

Never understood why they did not delay this until 2022 instead of 2021.

To get all the countries under control and vaccinated and hope to bring in fans was not likely a one year task.

I know that 2022 is a World Cup year but they are being played in December that year so there is no overlap.

I would lean towards sending them if they want to go, leave it up to the athletes to opt out if they wish.

Why risk it? At the end of the day they are just games after all...

IMO only out of respect for the years of training these athletes put into this goal which is only attainable within a very brief window.
it’s just games to you and me, but it’s a massive part of their lives, they have sacrificed much time and energy for this opportunity
I wouldn’t want them to lose more through no fault of their own. If olympics were yearly then fine, but they might never get another shot at this

Our athletes would be double vaccinated by now and there will be no spectators. Euro went ahead with huge crowds and God knows how many were unvaccinated.

Yes they spend there lives at a goal that for most of them does nothing and has no economic value. Businesses owners may lose there life savings and never be able to get out of debt for the rest of there lives - that something that we can get behind. Synchronized swimming skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing indicate a special person worthy of special stauts for devoting there life to such critical activities. Imagine the horror of lossing your one chance to skateboard on tv?

The Olympics are the most corrupt sporting organization on the planet... why we send anybody at all is the real question.

For the first time as long as I can remember I won't be watching one minute of these Olympic games.

Would hate to be the one to make the decision - personally I would let the athletes themselves choose and do my best to keep them (and Canadian - when they return) safe.
These guys trained hard to get to where they're at, they should be given the chance.

I think we almost have to send them. There would be tremendous resistance to keeping our athletes home especially if the athletes themselves start demanding to go.

Plus…as mentioned above…the athletes will all be vaccinated and if anybody can run the athlete’s village in a clean,, covid-safe bubble it would be the Japanese so I trust we are in good hands.

I disagree when you speak disparagingly of newer Olympic sports like skateboarding, surfing, etc. I don’t have much interest in them myself but I respect the athleticism that these kids bring to their sport.

Moreover…why is Fencing an Olympic sport? Or Diving? Or Hammer Throw? We never watch any of these other sports either except for once every 4 years when the Olympics comes around.

PS: You sound like some grumpy old guy yelling at skateboard punks to get off your lawn…LOL
