The Ontario government says it plans to join British Columbia’s proposed class action lawsuit against dozens of opioid manufacturers.

Attorney General Caroline Mulroney says the province will introduce legislation that, if passed, would enable Ontario’s participation in the suit launched late last year.

She says Ontario would invest any potential awards won from the litigation into frontline mental health and addiction services.

British Columbia filed the proposed class action against dozens of pharmaceutical companies in a bid to recoup the health-care costs associated with opioid addiction.

The untested suit alleges the companies falsely marketed opioids as less addictive than other pain drugs and helped trigger an overdose crisis that has killed thousands since OxyContin was introduced to the Canadian market in 1996.

It names the maker of OxyContin — Purdue Pharma Inc. — as well as other major drug manufacturers, and also targets pharmacies, including Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. and its owner Loblaw Companies Ltd., claiming they should have known the quantities of opioids they were distributing exceeded any legitimate market.

In a separate Ontario case launched earlier this month, lawyers representing patients who became addicted to opioids filed a statement of claim seeking more than $1.1 billion in various damages from nearly two dozen companies.

That suit alleges the companies were negligent in how they researched, developed and marketed opioids starting in the 1990s.

I find this funny as hell, because pharmaceuticals have much say and input into healthcare, this is just smoke and mirrors. Nothing to see here, move along.
Besides, isn't Fentanyl being imported from China and isn't it the drug of choice these days? We (the West) sent them opium, this is their gift back to us.

Class action against opioid manufacturers lol

I do like the comment below the article.

holy smokes (posted)
"And then you introduced weed to ‘make it all better’ again. Wait til you see what happens in the next 20 years. It will make the opioid crisis look like a family picnic."

SMFH people believe this "government" shit, as if their vote matters, lobbyists are the only ones that matter to those in government. Regular citizens are just minions, we're nobody to them, except we pay their wages, benefits, etc.

Those are prescription drugs. The most responsible are the doctors and the Ministry of Health that sets the guidelines. Of course the government cannot sue itself.

The same Ministry of Health (lobbied heavily by the dairy/farming industry) that tells you to drink cow's milk, basically breast feed from a cow, for calcium? Oh ok.

Abstract:
Plant-based diets are often touted as healthy, and yet many plants contain clever protective chemicals, carefully crafted by evolutionary forces over millennia, to serve the needs of the plant, rather than to nourish the human body. Many of these compounds are potentially toxic to animal cells, and include naturally-occurring pesticides, mineral chelators, and antibiotics.

But listening to the Ministry of Health who is, again, heavily lobbied $$$ by the dairy and farming industry is okay?
Humans are not cows, therefore that milk and its formulation is absolutely foreign to our bodies.
Here's a minute video to explain it for you.

One comment below nails it.

the people in the comments still demonizing phytoestrogen but have no problem eating dairy which has real mammalian estrogen that actually does give you womanly features

You're literally BREAST FEEDING from an FEMALE COW (another species) and you're telling me that, that estrogen is perfectly fine for us? Sure when you were a baby and you got it from your human mother.
After that, various plants (vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, etc) have calcium as well.

You do realize that a vegan diet is simply removing the flesh off of your plate and that's it. It's not overly complicated.

vegans are biased. you cannot go to them for health advice. they are the people who claim cow's milk is not good for you but refuse to talk about Soy milk( and pother plant based milk) which contains phytoestrogens, endocrine disruptors and anti-nutrients,

If you're gonna listen to any Doctor, try Michael Greger, he's all about the health and science about foods and their impact on human lives.

Cows Milk does not raise estrogen levels. All your sources are all vegan biased propaganda I cannot post my sources using a smartphone. When I get home I will post more info

Consumption of Natural Estrogens in Cow’s Milk Does Not Affect Blood Levels or Reproductive Health

https://www.elsevier.com/about/pres...ot-affect-blood-levels-or-reproductive-health

“Our results suggest that estrogens in milk, even when derived from cows in the third trimester of pregnancy, do not pose a risk to reproductive health,” concluded Dr. Majdic. “Even estrogens at concentrations 100 times higher than usually found in native milk did not cause any physiological effects in the present study.” This is indicative that naturally occurring hormones in milk are found in far too low concentrations to exert any biological effect on consumers.
