I have Acrobat 4.0 and Illutrator 9.0 installed on my computer. When I go to open a PDF file from a search engine Microsoft Explorer opens it in Illustrator. I can only see one page of the document! How do I get the browser to open the PDF files using Acrobat?

Thanks.

Sarasota,

In explorer, select the document in question (click once)... then go to the menu:

/file/open with...

Pick Acrobat from the list of programs, and check off the "always use this program to open these files" box.

You'll be "good to go" each time you execute .pdf files...

Best regards,

F.

if it is windows 98...

right click on the pdf while holding Ctrl (if that does not work, try Shift.. I can't remember)
or with XP, right click on the pdf

the menu pops up and goto "Open with" >>> "choose program"

pick the appropriate program, and check the box that says "always use the selected program to open that type of file"

Why Not?

All of the above fixes work but only once. they must be repeated each time. If you want it to be permanent you must change the file association. This is a list of the default programs to launch for each file extension.

To change this permantly there are instructions in the Windows help file. Below are the instruction for changing the association in win 98 quoted from the Help Menu.

To change which program starts when you open a file

In My Computer or Windows Explorer, on the View menu, click Folder Options.
Click the File Types tab.
In the list of file types, click the one you want to change.
Click Edit.
In Actions, click Open.
Click Edit.
In Application used to perform action, enter the program you want to use to open files that have this extension, and then click OK.
Note
The settings for selected file types are shown in File type details.
